Any good? What is the Sonic Holography feature all about, something worth checking out?

Sonic holography is an active design with results similar to SDA's passive design, but SDA works and sounds better, IMO.

Ok Jesse I have read a little about this holography over on Audiokarma, I've heard proper speaker placement is a must to achieve this form of crosstalk cancellation, and once you do it sounds great. I was wondering if you heard this were the speakers set up like Bob Recomended, and what speakers did you listen to it on.

I have plenty of speakers sitting idle some AR 58's, Klipsch, and JBL's and some others, non SDA's. If so how difficult is it to achieve the speaker placement, and how did it sound. I will not except it to be like my SDA's but got enough stuff to set up another 2 channel around this receiver if you or others think the sound is somewhat unique. Looks like I got some threads to read tonight.

It's really no different than properly setting up a pair of SDA's. I ran the SH on a pair of Carver Plats and have heard it on other various speakers. The sweet spot is extremely narrow and the effect (I hate that term) wasn't as accurate as SDA. That said, the only real way to know is to try it yourself.

Thanks for the info, sounds like you can turn that feature on or off if you want so that might be a good thing. I guess now I will be thinking I need this receiver dang it all, I already have receivers sitting Idle.

I ran SH in a TGP-II with my RTA 11TLs and enjoyed it.

Poor mans SDA effect for those of us unable to fit SDAs in the room

I heard it back in the day and thought it was cool but narrow and noisy. Sda set up with great source sounds better. The 2.3s sound better with every dac upgrade.

The Early Models used Noisy Processing Chips. Later models were much better. There are two problems. One is common to SDAs as well, source material. The better the recording, channel separation etc. the better the Interaural Crosstalk Cancellation. The other problem with the Carver is the sweet-spot. It can be so narrow, that you need your head in a vise to keep the image from collapsing. This is also very dependent on the speakers being used and proper setup. SDAs are much more forgiving, and depending on model, have a much wider sweet-spot. I've also noticed that the "SDAs Interaural Crosstalk Cancellation falls away more gracefully to regular stereo, where the Carver is rather abrupt.
Just my two cents.

Thanks for the info guys I bet this Carver with the holography feature turned off sounds no better than the Marantz, Onkyo, receivers, or my integrated amps that are sitting idle at the moment. I saw Carver and thought this would be a must have, plus after reading up on these a lot of them seem to have been failure prone.
