Typically putting an 8 ohm speaker on a 4 ohm tap will get less power (about 2dB), but damping will be better and distortion lower.
Naturally if you reverse that and put a 4 ohm speaker on an 8 ohm tap, you will get more power (about 2dB) but at higher distortion and with a lower damping factor.

Check out this video of the making of an 802 diamond... it's phenomenal what kind of labor they go through for this speaker.

I see those are 8 ohm nominal. Let me bring the 845 monos by and see how they do sometime. It would be worth the effort before you pull the trigger on new amps.

oops never mind see you fixed the problem

Seen that many times...mad respect for B&W craftsmanship. I always thought the old Matrix enclosure was pretty special. The current line just kicks everything up several notches. I hope to listen to the Diamonds at Axpona in April.

It's a nice factory, I think the humidity is controlled and they have great workers working there.
