Bought an Oppo 981 for $15!

I got what I think was a good deal at Salvation Army a Oppo 981-HD with remote for $15. Seems like it will play almost everything I can stick in it except for Blu-Ray. 4pvbuyahlfss.jpg

    Well done, PolkieMan! Nowadays, in most cases, you can't even find a working remote control for $15. You found one and it just so happened to have an Oppo come along with it.

    And you say nothing ever shows up at a bargain price in Pearland!

    It really does 1080p even plays DVD Audio pretty next for cheap :-)

    That is a great find. I had one that I picked up from Good Will for $15 too. It had nice sound while it worked. These units seem to have an issue with power supply boards going bad. You will know it if your power light glows purple and the display is goofed up. Mine has a fried area on the board and a bulged cap. I contacted Oppo about purchasing a new board but they said that I can buy the extended warranty for $50 and they will fix it.

    By the way, I have a pair of Koss Pro/4X Plus headphones just like yours. Do you have a source for the foam that goes around the plate under the ear pads?

    I also had the Grado SR80 but upgraded to the 225i a few years ago.

    No all the foam rotted out years ago, but they still sound very good I think I got them in 1983-86

    So the burning question for me that I forgot to ask is how this stacks
    up against the other models AFA sound quality for 2 channel?
    Anyone have a shoot out head to head with the different Oppos?
    This against the 83 93 103 in specific.
