Please help! Marantz SR6009 versus Pioneer Elite SC 82

Please help! Marantz SR6009 versus Pioneer Elite SC 82
Hello -

After spending weeks researching for AV Receivers I have narrowed down to Marantz SR6009 versus Pioneer SC 82. These seem to have very similar specs in general. Could you please help me choose one of these 2 based on following?

1. Reliability of the brand

2. Pioneer has D3 amplification, and many on this forum have said it helps the unit to run cooler. How about Marantz? Did anyone have any issues with overheating etc.?

3. Pioneer 82 seems a lot heavier than Marantz (32 pounds vs 25 pounds). Will this make any difference?

4. Marantz has Audyssey Gold Built-in; whereas Pioneer 82 uses their own MCACC.

5. How is the reputation of these brands? This will be my very first receiver so have no idea in terms of which one is more reputed?

Thanks for your help in advance!

Mike

    1. Both are pretty good.
    2. Cooler, hotter....much to do about nothing. For the life of me I don't understand why folks freak out if their gear gets hot.
    3. Generally, yes. Heavier could indicate a larger power supply and/or a beefier chassis, both are a plus.
    4. I'll take MCACC everyday of the week and twice on Sunday.
    5. Both are pretty good. That said, I own an Elite SC for HT only.

What speakers do you have? That would be a big variable in your decision.

Good question Nightfall. Took a peek at his other thread, seems to be LSi25's.

MikeCobot, if those are the speakers you plan on driving with an AVR, neither will do them justice. You haven't mentioned other speakers, so is this a 2 channel rig or HT rig you are putting together?

Thanks for messages! For the timing being I will have only 2 Lsi front speakers (2.0). I'm planning to gather rest of the speakers over time, and planning to add pre-amps for the Lsis then!

    You mean an amp?

...or you're going to replace the LSi's and move them to a 2 channel system and will need a 2 channel preamp?

In general I find the Pioneer Elite receivers much better then the Marantz units.
I find the Elite has better sound, more features , and Pioneer has a much better history then Marantz when it comes to reliability.
For me it's a no brainer , I'm a Pioneer guy for very good reasons.

Hello! I received my Pioneer Elite 82 today, and just finished the set-up but no sound from the speakers?! Here is my set-up:

I have a Roku player. Roku HDMI out to AV Receiver In (6th port)

HDMI Control Out from AV Receiver to HDMI Input of the TV.

What am I doing wrong? I could see the video from Roku on the TV that is passing through the receiver but no sound! Please help!

There may be a button on the front that turns the speaker output on and off

There is a speaker button on the front; tried to pushing that and it says speakers ON but no sound? I am using only 2 LSi speakers but it still shows L C R at the top and then SL and SR below it. Then there is LFE below that with auto surround. At the bottom it says SP--AB

Does the TV support ARC (Audio Return Channel)? If so, what version HDMI cable are you using?

Just found the solution! Just had to change settings! :) Now trying to get the sub-woofers in the LSi25 working!
