My Subwoofer is 12 feet from the main listening seat and Audyssey has it set at 20.5 feet.

My question is which position will most accurately sync with the left and right towers which are 10 feet from main listening seat.?

I know that there is someone on here that can answer my question so I am rewording it.
My Subwoofer is 12 physical feet from the main listening seat but Audyssey has it set at 20.5 feet.

My question is which position will most accurately blend with the left and right towers which are 10 feet from main listening seat? Do you guys leave it as Audyssey sets it or do you change it in the AVR to the actual physical distance as measured with a tape? Do you experiment with distances in between the two or does your receivers set it correctly all the time?

It is setting the longer distance as a method to adjust phase, attempting to smooth out bass response. Setting it to 12ft will increase overall loudness of bass at the cost of quality.
Oh, Listen here mister. We got no way of understandin' this world. But we got as much sense of this bird flyin in the sky. Now there is a lot that bird don't know, but it don't change the fact that the world is happening to him all the same. What I am tryin to say is, is that the course of your life, well its changing, and you don't even see it- Forest Bondurant

I've experienced this as well, usually with corner loading and longer distance from the MLP.

mine did this as well, it didn't seam to matter but I set it @ 12' to match the speaker that is next to it.
When I was a kid my parents told me to turn it down. Now I'm an adult and my kids tell me to turn it down.

    Thanks for your replies

I found an old Stereophile test CD that I got years ago. It has base test tones and I played it with the 20.5' setting and the 12' setting.

There did not seem to be any difference in loudness but I believe that the 20.5' setting sounds best" tighter base" so I left it on the 20.5 setting.
