Monitor 10 and 7 comparison, old story, but a question.

I know there have been endless threads about the muddled upper mid-bass on the 10's due to the side by side configuration and less imaging than the 7's. There is also the recommendation to those with a SDA dimensional (2nd) tweeter to disconnect the dimensional one to avoid the weird spatial effect. I do not have one of those models to weigh-in on that discussion. But has any one ever discussed, or is it even doable, to disconnect one of a Monitor 10's MW's to POSSIBLY make it image better, more like a 7? Just a question. Not wanting to start a brawl here. Thanks.

I personally would not do it. But, no harm to try it out. Seems to me if you disconnected one, the single driver would be operating in a cabinet the is too large and a passive radiator that is not tuned for one driver.

I agree the Mont. 10 design was calibrated for two mid-bass drivers and the corresponding SW (passive). I probably will never try this, was just curious if others might have tried it or discussed it here (my search failed to find one). The SDA dimen. tweeter I mentioned is probably fed a different signal than it's other tweeter. So it would be different than cutting off half of the mid-bass signal when disconnecting one Mont. 10 MW in a dumb experiment (Franken...). Thanks for the replies.

About the only thing I could think of to modify the 10, would be to add a 2nd order Lo-Pass Filter to the outer woofer on each side. This would filter the upper bass and mid frequencies, while maintaining the lower frequencies, and not affect the tuning of the PR and enclosure. The problem would be more bass output relative to the mids and highs.Home Theater/2 Channel:
