Interconnect suggestions for CD analog out to tube preamp

I'm in the market for a new set of 1m interconnects seeing as my last set had gotten way too loose.

I was checking out Audioquest Golden Gates, and for $69 they seemed to be a decent choice. My main criteria would be a nice, snug fit that doesn't loosen up. The last pair I had were so loose that the slightest touch caused them to fall out.

I have a pair of Kimbers going from the preamp to my amp but I'm wondering if I should have the same cables going in and out of the preamp?

I've got a pair of Golden Gates sitting here doing nothing. You can have them for 40 shipped to your door if you like.

Doesn't really matter as far as brands going in and out. Some however suggest all your cables should be the same, all interconnects and same brand speaker cables. I don't find that a necessity though.

Budget would dictate whats available out there, new or used ? Dougs IC's are pretty decent, Signal cable analog 2's....or if you want to move up the chain MIT, Acoustic Zen Matrix, Analysis plus, Gabriel Gold Raptures, Morrow, PNF....the list can go on.

Had some audioquest that were a little lose also but I just reach in with a little jeweler screwdriver and push the inside a little away from inner wall and they were a lot tighter.

The ones I'm using now Doug made with locking RCA's.

The locking idea sounds really good, although I don't think I can touch Doug's prices. Don't want to spend more than $70 for a pair of 1 meter.

For future reference, MIT's have locking RCA's.

Yep I have had locking ic's with the screw and they are a pain in the buttocks. My wireworlds pulled the rca jacks off my DAC's. I think MIT has the best implementation as you twist to tighten and loosen making them ideal if you like an east life when it comes to swapping things around all the time like I do.
  • Could you cut your current ones right behind the connector and reterminate? Are they good enough cables to spend the money to get great rca plugs for them instead of getting an OK cable and plugs?

Fit is tight, only a few months old. No longer have the original packaging though.

70 bucks for IC's isn't going to buy ya much though.

Great price for a Morrow cable there, though I might move up their chain a tad and see what deals I could find.

This idea may have wings. I'm considering a DIY solution with a couple of other members but the above is a nice option to have. Didn't think of that.

Looks like DIY it will be. I'm going to use Furez cabling with Furez locking RCA connectors. I'll post some glamour pics when they're done.

  • Talk about a tight fit I had Monster Cable's grip'o death i/c and like PFB it almost pulled out my rca jacks on my long gone Onkyo pre. After complaining to MC they eventually sent me for free a different set of I/Cs that I do use to go from my Yamaha to my NAD pre.

  • The locking RCA's are sooooo nice... When tightened down, they won't fall out, or pull out. And when you want to remove them, just loosen the barrel and they will slip right out.

I can't wait to terminate them. I'm covering them with "Carbon" colored Techflex and they're going to look very sharp.
