Hello, and a little tale from scottyboy76

Its been awhile and a lot has happened.

I don't know where to start except to say Im sitting with my right arm in a fixed attached sling.

I had my 15th surgery on dec. 17th, this one was my 2nd rotator cuff on my right shoulder.

I guess this is more about the yin and yang of life than about you or me.

For 10 years I have taken prescription painkillers on a regular basis, because I have serious pain issues, besides , I KNOW ME,....right.

I can deal with anything, if it starts affecting me I will know it, RIGHT.

For years I have taken

HYDROCODONE< 10-325

TYELONAL 4

SOMA

and occasional scrips if I had surgery or serious dentistry work.

It did not matter, I was always counting them at the end, leading up to the next drs> visit.

And the awful three or four days of withdrawal if I ran out, night is the worst, with the split second seizures, and days without real sleep and magnified physical pain.
Today has been a beautiful sunny day here in the north Georgia mountains, and I have been free to REALLY experience it.

I have also learned that I was not entirely there for little deb or anyone else, and that is more pain than any I have ever felt in my life and has not let up since I was forced into total reality.

Just like anything else in life, If you are dependant, there is a price, and it aint cheap, But some hide the real size of the cost very well.

Because of wear and tear of life both shoulders need rotator cuff surgery, left one will be probably fall.

Im hoping this Monday when I go to my MD I have the nerve to just say no, and stick with it.

This stuff, unlike pot rewires your brain, few are left unchained, and almost all of those are the ones who quit as soon as the worst pain is over, as I did 12 times before using it as a crutch.

Not trying for sympathy nor am I preaching, just trying to help anyone coming after me, if possible.

Now there is a lot that bird don't know, but it don't change the fact that the world is happening to him all the same. What I am tryin to say is, is that the course of your life, well its changing, and you don't even see it- Forest Bondurant

I know exactly where you are coming from. Herniated disks left me basically living on a mattress in the family room (this was before we had kids) having to pop oxy and other pills that relieved nerve pain. Had surgery and did physio. I still had to take the pills. Then I was trying to slowly get off them. My wife and I went to Cuba and she thought I was off them. at this point it was just oxycocet (no longer on the stronger ones). I brought them with me and tried not to take them. It ruined part of our trip. I told my wife. When I got back I knew it was time. I couldn't live like that anymore. As others have said, worst couple days ever. I went cold turkey as I didn't want to take another pill. It was time! life is much better now. Sometimes my wife asks if I remember a time when... and sometimes, honestly I don't. This is your time. I say call the Dr's office while the will is strong and tell them to be sure he doesn't give you anything. You'll get over it, Deb would encourage you and would want you to enjoy a "clear" life.
Now I'm almost afraid of taking any kind of pill as it reminds me of those days.

god bless all of you, You will never know how much your thoughts and prayers mean

Again, this post was to warn others, if you take even codeine for more than needed for the worst pain, your brain starts to become rewired, FOREVER.

    Don't go down that path.

Again thank you all for your prayers and good thoughts.

BTW, the shoulder is much better with the help of good physical therapists and time to heal.

Thinking about putting off the left shoulder till fall instead of march because im the only one to mow and weed eat and clean the house, and there is no downside to waiting.

That will be no. 16 surgery, and if I let them fuse my back no. 17, come on peeps root me on to 20 surgerys, I mean what the heck at this point.

the neck fusion they are encouraging me to do does worry me a little but I know its all in gods hands, and im praying for guidance every day.

Just wish my little buddy was here, it all seemed to be Ok with deb by my side, seeing as she was made to fit right under my arm and was way wiser than me.

I hurt my back a couple of years ago and the MN fire department had to come get me. Well I got taken to hospital and injected, holy crap was I high!!! Then they sent me home with two bottles of pills, Valium and some kind of heavy duty pain killers.

I remember being high as a kite and it was totally the best week of my life. I would think about something and like drift off in that one thought for 2 hours, when I came back I would laugh and it would be time for more pills woo hoo lol. I would be calling up my friends to let em know how high I was and mumbling garbage and hardly remember what I said/

I went back to the hospital one week later and the hot looking young Doctor said that there would be no more of the strong pill combo. In that moment I was really bummed out big time, the party was over for me and I was like nooo!! I had this super intense rush of depression for 2 days and the first day I was so sad.

I can see why people get addicted to pain pills aand can say that if I was addicted I am so weak minded that I would not make it out the other end.

Scotty maybe you go for these surgerys because you get to justify being high for a week after?

Are you really that ignorant? Fusions of the spine are serious operations, and doctors don't just do it because you ask. I was in severe pain due to bulging discs in my neck. They wouldn't do surgery until I lost the use of my right arm. Without surgery I would have been paralyzed.

I think those pills did permanent brain damage to you. You should have followed the dose on the label.

Well I dont know Scottys history or follow his posts but I am reading 17 surgical procedures and just throwing it out there that there could be some correlation with pain pills.

My shoulder is messed up and I got these cortisone shots and then it never worked so they wanted me in for a procedure. My bone needs shaved at the rotator cuff and they need to go in with this wire saw thing. I am not doing it nor do I take pills for pain, here is what I do. I get up off my butt and stay active and just live with it and I dont claim nothing from the state.

Your just blowing what I said out of proportion, unless Scotty is a wounded Vet and has had all of these surgery's to recover from serving this country? Like I said I dont much about Scottys history and was making a casual comment.

You're right PFB, you Don't know about Scotty history, nor are you a friend- so please keep your stupid opinion to yourself. I'd love to be closer to you, so I could make you STFU. You sir are a waste of oxygen.

Well guys this is a classic example of why I should stick to audio threads. I am not really part of the polk click nor do receive friendly pm's from memebers or anythings to really know alot about other members. For that I have to apologize for being insensitive but its not because I have cold blood rather its a case of not knowing.

Initially I never knew Scotty was a wounded VET and undergoing numerous surgerys from that. I read the post and thought " Man, Robocop never even had twenty surgical procedures" I was thinking about my own experience with hard core pain pill popping for that week and offered my opinion.

Thanks guys, and sorry to say pfb s statement was ignorant.

Virtually every surgery I have had was preceded by therapy and time to see if it could improve without being cut on.

Only after my 13th surgery, my second back surgery did I need meds for more than a week, I always hated the way they made me feel after a couple of days.

Several docs have offered to set me up with a pain clinic, but I knew that meant morphine and dilaudid, seriously strong meds which will kill you if taken long enough.

Needless to say I declined the offer, instead I used to live on Ketoprofen 325 mgs 3 times a day, along with goody powders in order to work full time at Home Depot and run my landscaping business.

Now you can only get ketoprofen in 75 mg doses because of the terrible damage thay cause to the GI tract.

when I could no longer take powerful antiinflammatorys was when I had to switch to something else just to get through the day, beginning with non narcotics such as tramadol to no avail even combined with multiple steroid epidurals until they said you are risking permanent damage to bone and tissue from the strong steroids.

Again, I only bring these things up as a warning to take pain meds very seriously, thankfully codeine and hydrocodone recently were reclassified to the same level as morphine and such, meaning urine test every three months to not only prove they are in your system and no illegal drugs are in your body.

Im hoping this will help some change their lives, but some patients have serious pain issues that will be lifelong and have no choice, for me 19 years of pain problems forced me to resort to desperatemeasures.

Sorry for the rambling and thanks to all who spoke up for me here.

In closing I guess all I have to say is "Stay classy PFB"

See PFB, that is your main problem. You open your mouth before you think. THIS is why people here think you are an idiot. Are you like this in real life? Common sense, which is not that common I see, would dictate that your comments above are highly out of line. For one, as you say you do not know Scotty. And two, you do not know what he has been through.

I think PFB's comments, and our replies, have really derailed this thread. And should be deleted!

PFB I commend you for apologizing and apologize to you for my comment being over the top, but you really need to think before you comment so flippantly. I consider Scott a friend and really do not appreciate your lack of tack.

Scott hang in there bud and feel free to give me a call. It's been too long since we swapped lies.
