Do all drivers work when no IC is present?

I have 1B's. I am gonna make a cable tomorrow, or try to anyways. But am wondering now if all the drivers work on this model if there is not a cable connected between the speakers.

Nope. The dimensional drivers only work when there is an IC connected.

The 1B is new enough that ALL the drivers work when the SDA interconnect cable is disconnected. True also for 1C, 2A, 2B, later CRS, and all of the SRS series. The 1B--and I presume the others of that and newer generations as well--sounds quite pleasing and natural without the SDA cable; using it allows the expanded soundstage but little toneality change.

The SDA drivers provide bass reinforcement for the stereo drivers with no IC cable attached. Polk had a fancy name for this, "something-or-other sub-bass something something". I'm too lazy to look it up. Add the IC cable, and the SDA drivers do double-duty--the SDA signal as well as bass reinforcement.

NOT true for the SDA1, SDA 1A, SDA 2, and (maybe) the earliest CRS, (am I correct--any model with an SDA tweeter) where disconnecting the SDA interconnect disables the SDA driver(s).

Yup. The 1B doesn't use an SDA tweeter like the prior generations. The 1B uses a two-tweeter progressive-point-source stereo tweeter pair per cabinet. Tweeter is completely un-affected by SDA cable use or non-use in ordinary listening. (It is possible to connect the speakers improperly and have a back-feed through the tweeters from the SDA signal, but this isn't important if the speakers are wired properly.)
