Speaker upgrade time

Looking at replacing the 7's and C with the totem rainmaker and center or the LISM 703 and 704c. Cabinet block out limits a center to 24"w x 8"h max. Room is 20'x22' with cathedral ceiling. WAF will not allow floor standers.

Recently read high recs for the rainmaker (what a killer name) from polk long timers.

Any additional ideas will be appreciated. My current gear is shown in my sig. Prefer used.

Also, want to upgrade my speaker cable. Will need 8' runs of the kimber TC either 4 or 8. Need the forums rec. on which one or a different cable. Prefer used again.

    Thanks.

I would not classify my room as soft by any means. The floor is tile with a 12x7 area rug. The couch and chairs abut the rug and are inset from the side and back wall about 5' providing a walkway.

Any thoughts on the cable? Could the 8tc, costing almost twice the cost of the 4tc, be twice as productive?

Others have said this type of thing and I never quite understood what they meant. The 703 is as wide and as deep as the 705. Placed atop a 24"-28" Pangea DS300 stand for example the bookies will be as tall as a floorstander (40"-44") and take up about the same floor space.

Well, I guess the 703's are much cheaper and quite capable for a bookie.

Stands are not an option either. I had a 7' long by 2' high cabinet made so the 7's could sit adjacent to the TV on each end. The new speaks will be limited to this location.

More concerned about 2 channel music than HT sound. Doubt I venture into surround music and the DW prefers the HT side for now. Working on this.

    Thanks for the links.

Oh, I see. Good luck with it. I thought about making the LSiM703, 706c move during the sale myself.

I had the smaller Totem, the Dreamcatcher, and the 703.

If I was in your shoes and had room for the 703, they would be my choice. The 703 is a stupid good bookie.

I think I missed the fire sale but not in a hurry. The 7's sound pretty sweet but I know some better speakers are out there.

Never heard the Rainmakers, but you can't go wrong with the 703's. I'm listening to a pair now and I'd still have a pair in my H/T if the Usher's hadn't come along.

703s? Yes! When I upgrade from the LSi-7s I currently use in the office there is no question about where, in the Polk line, I would go. Those 703s do FILL up a room more so than Rainmakers, though it is pretty surprising what such a SMALL and LIGHT WEIGHT (they, the Rainmakers, weigh almost nothing, and hardly have what we can consider real damping-I wonder what that Martian material Bruzzese sprays those thin walled cabs with really does? Or if it's not some fortuitous cabinet resonances that coincidentally give them their sound rather than engineering?) Totem speaker can sound like. I agree it can get a little bright in some rooms (on another completely off the wall comparison, I've found the the metal dome in the RC-10 Energy is almost NEVER bright in any setting? But it also doesn't have quite the detail and resolution of the Rain-boys)!

The 703s will pretty much give you most of what you need and still be clean and powerful. Add the center if you're doing a 3.1. For me, it'll just be 2.0.

    Happy listening!
