Quick SDA 2B Studio IC question

I'm going to look at a pair of 2B studios tonight. There's no IC cable and I'll probably have to redo the grills. I think I'm gonna offer $100 if they're in decent shape and pass the "seal" test.

Here's the question: I believe the 2B Studios use the Pin/Blade IC, right? If I want to make one on my own should the connectivity be Pin-Pin, Blade-Blade, or Pin-Blade, Pin-Blade? Thanks in advance.

For testing, just use a piece of speaker wire.
I'm not sure if all 2B's are pin/blade but even if it's blade/blade, speaker wire will work as it has two wires in one, just make sure to connect correct ends on both.

Once that's done, you can either go with rca plug for pin/blade or neutrik or bare wire...

Depending upon location and interest, offering $100 may show you the door.

Perhaps I worded my question wrong, but I need to know how to connect the two IC ports polarity-wise. Should the pin on one speaker always connect to the pin on the other, and blade to blade, also?

    Yes.
pin to pin. you just need pin to pin if it's pin/blade. no need to use blade part for testing.

if it's blade/blade, wider blade to wider blade and smaller to smaller.

The pin only. The blade does nothing but support mechanically.

Run pin to pin and ignore the blade.

    Great, thanks a bunch, guys.

As for the price, the guy originally had them on CL for $200, but I said to him in an email that without IC and grills being in poor shape I would likely not go over $100 if they're in decent shape otherwise. I was expecting him to balk but he said the offer was fine and that he just wanted to get rid of them. I went in real low not expecting him to budge that far. That, plus the wife gave me the eye rolls when I told her about looking at these. Well, if I do get them I'll quickly put in some RDO194's. Then I might call Trey. :)

If YOU show this guy that it's dead-simple to replace the SDA interconnect, he may decide to keep them, or keep them long enough to make an interconnect and raise the sale price.

For a hundred bucks, buy them. Straighten out the problems when you get home.

Don't do rd0194's. 2B's can be TL'ed, which Trey can do for you. Then you can use 0198's.
Good music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Tubes make them dance.

Think you need a common ground amp to test them, then you could get a Dreadnaught and all the fun begins.

Ok, just got home with them a little while ago. Paid $100. (Sorry, Harry!). They are 2B Studio's with blade/blade config.

Right off the bat one of the MW6511 drivers is frozen solid. Otherwise, the cabinets are well sealed.

Binding posts need to be replaced. Cabinet is in not-that-bad shape and will probably be a good candidate for some wood veneer. The base platforms are a little chewed up on one speaker so I may just frame out some oak around them so they don't get more shredded. Polk badges are intact but I'll have to replace the grill cloths as it looks like there was some damage from the family cat.

Interior is immaculate and spotless. Packed with white fiberfill and not a sign of dust or loose debris anywhere.

I'll be in touch with Trey, for sure, as I regret selling my old SDAs some time ago. I may have to go the full "9" with these babies. I wonder if they will be good enough to replace the MLs eventually? Perhaps that is a question for Trey.

The crossovers are the most simple of all of the SDA's, same as CRS+ but with plenty of room to work.

Thanks for the link. I have a message in to Gimpod to discuss upgrade options.

Tsk, tsk. You realize you're supposed to tie the rope around your waist BEFORE you jump down the rabbit hole, right? lol
So, are you willing to put forth a little effort or are you happy sitting in your skeptical poo pile?

Gimpod doesn't do upgrades. He designed and supplies the crossover boards, which VR3 sells for him. VR3 does the actual upgrades.

The crossover boards are excellent and because of the larger size make installing and soldering the much larger caps a breeze.

Actually it's my stupid as I should put that clearly on my site, sorry.

If your going to upgrade the tweeters to RDO 194's I would definitely TL them (you'll need RDO 198's instead of RDO 194's, The tweeters cost the same and can be had from Polk) as it's easy and not very expensive to do just a single capacitor per crossover.

That frozen MW-6511 can be had from Polk also around $48 ea. same for the tweeters IIRC, Originals MW-6511's are rare and hard to come by but they do show up from time to time here and ebay. I would keep an eye out for one.

    Hope this helps.

For the 2B's blade/blade iteration, only one blade does anything; I believe you only need connect the small blade holes via speaker wire to test.

Edit: That's correct, you can see it in the schematic here.

Edit 2: A note for future readers: This is not true for most blade/blade crossovers.
