hey folks
I just picked up a pair of m5jr's on ebay. they look like the second series of the model.
I know that I'll need to pick up another set of tweeter fuses as one speaker doesn't have one currently. and of course I'm interested in how things are wired up.
does anybody have a schematic for these?

Did you look through the wiring schematics in the post at the top of the forum discussions? Posting some pictures may help identify them and also pulling the crossover out to check the values of the capacitors and resistors.

Which Tweeter is installed, SL2500 or SL2000? The Model 2/Revision 2 usually came with SL2500s. Does the Terminal Cup have spring-loaded connectors?Home Theater/2 Channel:

Faustian, thanks for the pointer, that page answers my question. The fuse value is marked "-050 A". Can you fellas clarify what that means?
And westmassguy, they're still in the mail but I'll check next week when they come in -
What schematic are you looking at? Only the early 5s had fusesHome Theater/2 Channel:

that is not a fuse. that is a polyswitch.

Well gee golly. Again, I don't have them with me as they're in the mail, but here's some pics. Maybe this'll shed some light.

Those are early 5jr's. They use a 1 amp fast blow fuse and there is not a polyswitch on the crossover. The later models eliminated the fuse and went to a polyswitch. I believe The tweeter is a SL1000 that was used after Polk stopped using the Peerless tweeters. Not a very good tweeter but there are a couple of options if you want to upgrade them.

Thanks guys, you rock. Ok so im looking for fast blow 1 amp. Easy.
As far as tweeters go, I've heard a bit about sl2000 and 2500 and something about getting parts directly from Polk. What do you know about that? -
And a bit of googling seems to confirm these as sl1000's

Used Peerless tweeters or Peerless clones from Midwest Speakers.

Ok. I thought the sl1000 replaced the Peerless when Polk started making their own tweeters? Also, I am assuming the tweeter opening will have to be modified to use RDO-194's?

Sort of. They have different electrical characteristics and frequency response, so changes were made to the crossovers.Home Theater/2 Channel:

Fuses=Radio Shack has them for under 3.00 if i remember. Try listening to the sl1000. You may like them. Upgrade later if you dont..
-
So RDO 194 would be the upgrade part and I would need to modify the cabinet?
boston1450, honestly if I'm going to replace the tweeters it'll probably be in a while. I'm a it low on skrilla right now, and I'd likely spend the money on a sub if I was going to spend over $50 -
Just curious. Can you tell me what those holes are on the R front top & L front top by the peg - when you get them. Maybe its my eyesight. With covers on it hides it. Not sure ive ever seen those like that. Drill/screw holes? You will enjoy those. I have a set with the sl2000's & they sound great.Post edited by boston1450 on..

Cheapest fuse is at Lowes but they don't have all the values.
They have 1 amp fast blow 5 pack for less than $1.50.

Hello, I found this thread looking for info on this 5jr early model. My set is exactly like pics here. I wasn't sure if the schematic in the 6th post was indeed for the early 5jr also. Can someone confirm. Thanks in advance.Don't take experimental gene therapies from known eugenicists.

Ok. I found the answer. It is not the same. It's a 1.3ohm resitor value using two resistors in parallel.Don't take experimental gene therapies from known eugenicists.
