Marketing Question: How Do You Buy?

I'd like to know how you buy your speakers and electronic equipment. Do you:

(a) Research online; buy in a store?
(b) Research in a store; buy online?
(c) Research by catalog; buy online?
(d) Research online; buy over the phone?

When you answer, I'd like info not only on YOU, but then maybe on what you see your friends doing, and then maybe some info on how you buy OTHER products (using the choices above) like books, CDs, furniture, etc.

Also, I'd like to know if you don't do any shopping or buying or research online and are strictly a "bricks and mortar" kind of person.

Thanks!

Micah

    All of the above.

Research online and in-store, and buy online or in-store (usually whichever offers the best deal)

    A) Yes, most of the time.
    B) No
    C) Research catalog but no on-line purchases
    D) Yes

Last 3 purchases all were researched online:
    HDTV: bought in-store
Receiver: purchased new from installation professional
Speakers: catalog purchase, ordered by phone.

    Why are you asking?

I do virtually all my research online. Only when I've narrowed the field down considerably do I go brick and mortar to put my hands on an item (we are talking big ticket items here) then I'll buy from wherever I can get the most satisfactory deal.

Small items, books, cd's etc....I buy almost exclusively online. No tax, usually free shipping.

Understandable. I'm pretty much the same way. If you buy a big ticket item online and there is a problem with it, there is more trouble in getting service. Also when you look at Biz Rate, there are some horror stories there which discouraged me from buying online. With the HDTV, the local brick and motar guy had a very
competitive price which I couldn't beat elsewhere. Online is terrific for research, however. This is a great site, I also use AVS Forum and Agoraquest (Sony only).

A; B only if a product is not available locally (two purchases thus far; third will be LSi7 to complete system as LSi not available locally anymore).

    I do things alittle different.

I demo in stores everywhere to find what I'm looking for.I research online to read reviews and spec's.After I narrow down a certain product,I buy wherever I find the best deal.In stores in mostly.I do little shopping online.Call me old fashion but I like to take it home when I buy.Hold it in stillness and be one with it.

I do buy online when the deal is right.I don't however shop at any unauthorized dealers.I don't feel comfortable.
