yeah I know.... the Symphonic is a capable little pre, but was not even close to a good match to my tube amps. I need something with a variable gain in order to bring them under control

It was a joke Dan...I knew John would get it. I haven't even tried the Sunfire yet let alone actually sat down and found out whether or not I enjoy it.
I am hoping that the combination of the Sunfire and my Musical Fidelity work well together otherwise, I will move it along and find something else.

Sale is off guys.... Gary is going to pop the hood on it and do some updated caps and a few tweaks, and add the variable gain. After that is done, I will be adding some upgrades of my own...

Good to hear that Gary is able to do the work. He has been going through a lot and I am sure he appreciates the work. Plus, I am sure the upgraded pre will be absolutely wonderful.

Smart move John. Give Gary our best. Thanks to all that helped John to get in touch with Gary too.

You haven't heard a system with out the noise until you've heard one of Gary's battery powered passive pre's. Yeah, they are that good.

Sale back on guys... I have moved along to a Pass Labs X-1 instead. In full disclosure, I have noticed a bit of hiss that can barely be heard in my particular rig at times from my listening position. It has not distracted or bothered me that much as it is more of a nuisance than anything else. I have paired this pre up with other amps with no problems, so it is my firm belief that there is a mismatch of sorts between my tube amps and this specific pre.

With the way my amps perform, I need the benefits of being able to select the preamp gain. I have made arrangements with Gary Dodd to forward the pre to him and have it checked out. for that reason, there are two prices here.

I will sell the pre for 800.00 plus shipping, FIRM and ship direct to you, or at 1000.00 firm and send it directly to Gary to be checked out before you receive it.

This is a NICE preamp guys, and for most it would be a destination piece of sorts. The only reason I am selling is that I want to see just how much more I can get from my amps and speakers.

Well... now that I can conclusively state that the Dodd and my amps were not even remotely close to a good match, I would like to give this thread a bump and a price drop to 750.00 SHIPPED! I will even deliver personally within 150 miles of 91367. A buyer is also welcome to come on up here and give it a whirl at my place.

Seriously George...ya gotta think about a Dodd pre for Dared money ? I'd say it's a darn good deal unless your saving some more pennies for PFB's Bat pre.
