SDA SRS 2.3 info

I recently bought a pair of SDA SRS 2.3 speakers with the flat drivers for top and bottom of the line of four drivers. The second driver from the bottom on outer left is labeled as a sr 142/17. At moderat to loud levels it is ok,but if you push it, it has a pop in it. The cone is not torn and no visible damage can be seen. I have been told to lightly push on it and see id I hear anything. I did this and can hear a scratchy sound. This with no power connected to it. I think it is the voice coil. Is this the problem? Can it be fixed? If it needs to be replaced,is there a replacement for it? Please help.

does it look the same as other drivers? rubber surround with "polk" on the rubber? The number you listed doesn't sound like the right number should be MWxxxx. IF it doesn't look like all the others it may be an after market which would be bad. It does sound as if you have a VC problem. Pictures would help a bunch.

The driver in question is a MW6510, the SR 142/17 has nothing to do with the part number. That said, you need a new MW6510, which Polk still sells. It looks a little different, but has the same specs. Of course, you can always look on eBay for an original.Political Correctness'.........defined

The dust cap is slightly larger and the wires are not exposed. You will have to cut notches in the surround flange otherwise the screws will twist it. Not sure what they cost.Political Correctness'.........defined

You can get them from Polk CS by calling the 800 number at the top of the page. Tell them you're a CP member and they're $48."Science is suppose to explain observations not dismiss them as impossible" - Norm on AA; 2.3TL's w/sonicaps/mills/jantzen inductors, Gimpod's boards, Lg Solen SDA inductors, RD-0198's, MW's dynamatted, Armaflex speaker gaskets, H-nuts, brass spikes, Cardas CCGR BP's, upgraded IC Cable, Black Hole Damping Sheet strips, interior of cabinets sealed with Loctite Power Grab, AI-1 interface with 1000VA A-L transformer

Polk no longer post the Customer Service number on the forum, you have to go find it on there home site. But here's the number.
Customer Service (Online Orders, Online Returns)
24 hours a day, 7 days a week:
1-800-377-POLK (7655) Option 4
Also note along with what @F1nut said the new drivers are not as dark and sticky as the originals and they may or may not say Polk on the surround. Remember Polk is basically a design house, they design stuff and farm out the component manufacture and maybe even assembly. ( I could be wrong on that last part about Polk but I don't think so). Oh that number 142/17 I take it's on the surround if so that's what it refers to, an internal part number that mean nothing to anybody but the driver manufacture.“The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why.” ~ Mark Twain

Hi pitdogg2. Thanks for your response. I am not sure how to place a pic on here but will give a detailed description. I have the 2.3's that have the oddly looking flat doughnut shaped drivers for the top and bottom of the outside row of 4 drivers. They are not the 2.3tl's. The top is the doughnut, 2 and 3 are regular looking drivers, and the bottom being the doughnut again. The driver in question is number 3 from the top. I have looked at the driver and it has the rubber surround and the Polk name on the bottom, but with the number SR 142/17 at the top. In the owners manual (that shows the regular drivers from top to bottom and not the doughnut drivers) shows number 2 and 3 to be dimensional line source ( Mid-woofers). I found some specs on-line that show the drivers to be 2 MW6511, 2 MW 6513, and SDA driver as 2 MW6510. I am assuming the SDA driver MW6510 is the one in question, but am not sure. All of the drivers look uniform in production and not aftermarket, as far as I can tell. I hope this was a good description for you. Can you help? Any questions will be answered promptly.
Thanks, SAP -
Thank you f1nut. After I posted that I got to doing some research and found out that it would be a MW6510. How much different do they look? Are they expensive now? I will get with them and order it,meanwhile I will be looking on eBay for an original as I would like to keep these as original as I can and still enjoy them.

Thanks to all of you guys. The info was just what I needed and will fix the problem. I have been waiting on these speakers for 26 or 27 years, and now that I have them, will take very good care of them. I am looking for a set of 1.2's for the future. If you guys come across any please let me know. Thanks.
