I think that my MO is to stir the pot anywhere I can and make blanket statements just to see if I can get a rise out of people. I know, I know...this is the very definition of trolling. But I don't troll!

That was his MO on the SH forum.

You know, that place where you used the following as your sig. "Of course you can trust your ears. It's brains that are gullible."

The new Sonys are nice, but depends on what you are driving. 8 ohm high sensitive bookshelf speakers should do alright, but. If you want full potential out of hungry full range speakers, look elsewhere.

Nothing wrong with reliable, budget gear. Amazon was blowing out some Yamaha DVD S1800 universal players a few years back for 80.00. I have one in my main rig, one in the bedroom and one still brand new in storage. They do a nice job at 1080p upconversion and handle redbook and SACDs very well.

I have a couple as well.

I had Sony for year with just one problem. My 5700ES died after only 2 and 1/2 years. It was still under warranty so Sony sent me a new one. The sound on music is great. The Onkyo 626 I picked up cheap from Amazon sounded great on movies but could not hold music well. I have the new sony back now and rock on. I wish I had the cash for an amp but that will have to wait.
When I was a kid my parents told me to turn it down. Now I'm an adult and my kids tell me to turn it down.

I see that my thread has resurfaced..lol. Yes Keiko, I did settle on a reciever..the Sony STR-DN850. Had to go dual-purpose due to SAF. So far it works great :).
