Receiver for SDA1

What are you driving your SDA1's with? I have a Harmon Kardon Citation receiver that I will hook up to mine when I am done with a few simple mods.

I would always drive my SDA's with a dedicated amp. If you have pre outs on your receiver you can use it as a pre amp. The SDA's will really open up if they have the right kind of power.
Polk HT system 1: LSIC, LSI25 mains, LSI F/X rears, Lsi F/X rear centers,
Yamaha RX-V2500 System, Carver A753 3 channel amp.

Polk HT system 2: , SRT system with f/x 1,000's rear speakers on 7.1 system currently using Onkyo TX-RZ820 receiver, powered by Sunfire Grand Theater amp

    Polk Speaker collection: SDA SRS 1.2tl x 2, SRT system, SDA SRS 2 P/B, SDA 2A, SDA 1C Studio, SDA CRS+, Monitor 7B & 4, SRS 3.1tl, RTA 15tl, LS90, LSI 9

Would not recommend running your SDA's with a receiver. Not sure what your HK is rated at but you want 150 - 200 rms for SS and can go less with tubes. I have 1c's that I run off of an Adcom GFA 555 at 200 rms at 8 ohms and around 350 at 4 ohms.

I can drive my srs 2 s with my Kenwood kr 9400. Its not like there on a dedicated amp but it don't sound bad, or get hot.

Those speakers present a 4 ohm load, so you better be sure your receiver can handle that.

First Guess: The HK Citation will be fine. Yes, it needs to be able to drive a four-ohm load, and it must be common-ground. I suspect but have not confirmed that your Citation is both.

I used a receiver with my 1Bs for years. Seemed to work fine at the time; although I now suspect that the receiver was not truly common-ground; perhaps having a few ohms of resistance between the channels.
  • The Citation will run multiple sets of speakers at either 8 or 16 ohms at 85 watts RMS and a single pair of speakers at 4 ohms, but it does not indicate the wattage. It is also a common ground receiver.

    Hit the "Specs" button
    135 @ 4ohms
It has dual transformers, so I would double check the common ground issue.
It should power them at low to moderate listening levels, but I would not push it. The SDA-1s are 4 ohm, but drop well below that at certain frequencies.
That's why most of us use a separate Power Amp, that can handle <4 ohms loads.
