mw6600x

I just bought some drivers off eBay that were listed as mw6500. I received them and they are mw6600x. I wanted to replace a couple of mw6500s in my 10a's. He stated they were 8 ohms but I have not put a meter on them yet. They supposedly came out of Sda 2s. Will this work or should I try to turn them ?

The SDA 2's used MW6510's. In fact, no SDA speaker used the MW6600X. Anyway, the driver specs of the MW6500 and MW6600X are different, so return them.

  • Well I got a good price on them so I will probably sell them instead of return them. I wont argue with the no SDA 2 used MW6600x's though I read otherwise.

Actually the original (1984) SDA 2's and SDA 1's with the dual SL-1000 tweeters did use the MW-6600X (I owned a pair of 2's in 1984) and even 3 MW-7500's (I have the manual and one for the SDA-1 that states they used 2 MW-7500's and 2 MW-7600's) when they switched the tweeters to the SL-2000 they switched the drivers to 3 MW-6501's, the 2A's used 2 MW-6510's and then the 2B's used a MW-6503 and a MW-6511.

If the drivers in your4 10A's say there MW-6500's then then that's what you should replace them with.

Remember schematics and manuals will get you in the ballpark but it's always better to see what you actually have in way of part numbers and component values as these can vary drastically from the schematics and manuals.

I would also return them as they are not the correct drivers for your speakers and the fact that they were not what was listed and what you paid for.

  • Yeah I was trying to buy 6500's but when I got them they were 6600x's. I am not complaining as I got a good deal on them and should be able to sell them. I was able to pick them up local and not worry about magnet shift during shipping. I am trying not to have to buy direct from polk as it just isnt in the budget to replace all 4 mids right now. I do not want to mix the replacements with the originals. I really only need one 6500 to replace one with a cut in the surround.
  • The drivers I have are dated 1983 which puts them in the time period the 6600x were used in the SDA 2's and I got 3 of them.

Umm correction They were used on SDA1 and SDA1 signatures before being replaced by all 6501.
My SDA signatures came factor fresh with MW6600 in all but the dimensional position. Which was a MW6501

My info doesn't show the MW6600X was used in SDA's.
