RTA 8Ts vs. RT2000P

Musically which ones do you think are better? I just picked up a pair of the 8ts and so far I like what I hear. I'm thinking about replacing my 2000Ps with these. I'm curious what others think. Obviously it's my ears that will make the final decision but I'd like to hear some opinions from those who have owned them.

It's a toss up, though for me personally I was never a fan of the self powered line of speakers for music. They did great for HT, but always felt they all lacked some for music. So my choice would be the 8t's
    HT SYSTEM-
    Sony 850c 4k
    Pioneer elite vhx 21
    Sony 4k BRP
    SVS SB-2000
    Polk Sig. 20's
    Polk FX500 surrounds

    Cables-
    Acoustic zen Satori speaker cables
    Acoustic zen Matrix 2 IC's
    Wireworld eclipse 7 ic's
    Audio metallurgy ga-o digital cable

    Kitchen

    Sonos zp90
    Grant Fidelity tube dac
    B&k 1420
    lsi 9's

Ran 8Ts for years. Just a nice, well rounded speaker. Tweet upgrade is highly recommended though.

Not a powered tower fan myself either. Have some 8T's in my office rig that I enjoy very much. Best $30 I ever spent...

I'm on the other side of the fence on this one. I prefer the sound quality of the RT2000P's but I would do the upgrade on them to get them to sound a bit sweeter. Get yourself a pair of the newer tweeters and crossovers. I did this on my RT1000p
s and it made a very nice difference. The RT2000i's tweeter and crossover is what you want. The blue drivers are just a color change, if I remember correctly they had the same exact response as the black drivers in your 2000p's.

  • I saw the 8s on CL pretty cheap and I figure I'd pick them up as spare parts for my 1Cs. I wasn't expecting them to be in mint condition. I think the 2000s go deeper than the 8s but the 8s sound way better in the mid range. These are also in the living room and the WAF favors the 8s. I think the 8s are going to show the 2000s the door. I also have a pair of RT55s in my HT setup. I'm now curious how they will compare to the 8s.

Your better off with a dedicated sub than those powered towers for lower bass notes...so I can see the attraction to the 8's over the 2000p's. Your right too, the midrange is way better in my opinion.
