This honestly needs no introduction. This is a Pioneer Elite Blu-ray player of well reknown.

It has a well regarded Wolfson DAC's so its more used as a really nice CD player that just so happens to play blu-rays. It loads blu-rays slow but has loaded all of em I've tried. Its got the latest firmware loaded on it.

Selling only because I have ripped all my blu-rays and DVD's so its getting little to no use. Figured I'd rather pass it along to someone looking for a good player.

Player is in mint condition and has the remote (have to find it) and stock powercord. I have not modded this in any way shape or form. It will be shipped in the original box and packaged to withstand any falls or drops. It will be insured for the purchase price as well.

Figured I would pass it along rather than let it sit and collect dust.

Asking 130 + shipping and this is listed on CL. I will get pictures up later tonight

Polkies in good standing may get a price break, so PM me for details.

Thanks @DSkip‌. I debated keeping this just in case but I've got too much crap in my closests anyway and it just wont get much use anymore since like you I went all server based on movies and music.

I'd agree that you should dynamat it, I just never got that far.

I am going to be honest and hang my head in shame as a audiophile  ...

I only played ONE burned CD-R in it the whole time I had it. BUT it had no problems at all playing it. I believe it was burned as a standard CD and NOT as a data CD since those wont play in my car.

Beyond that, it was used mostly for blu-rays from my collection, and it played all of them that I have in my collection.

So are you talking a CD burned in a data only format or burned like a standard CD?

Gotcha. The CD I played was music I had downloaded from some artists websites and burned on to a CD and it played fine.

I use this player as my go to CDP in the office system below. Does a great job. I do also play the occasional DVD or BD.

I have played burned CDs in this, no problem. Not many though. I suppose I could run a handful through today or tomorrow and further corroborate that. But I doubt that the assessment would change.

As Enders said, the ONLY thing that might bother you is the slow load times. But once in and loaded you're GOOD! Get that damping in as Dskip recommends and sit back and enjoy!

So this has been a fun journey on this player... Praying Ivan gets it today or tomorrow.

    Just look at the tracking....

Keep in mind Indiana and Illinois are next to each other..... How the H E L L does it go to Iowa, then MISSOURI, then Illinois? Did it go on vacation or something lol.

Ivan and I are praying the packaging is not destroyed.

Boy i must say this item darn near gave me a stroke. It has been more place in its short life than I have in mine :D .. I must say that Dan packed this very well above and beyond what must will do. Dan is an EXCELLENT seller so never fear unless he sends it USPS then hold on ..Kidding it was well beyond his control and the player did arrive safe now just to hook it up and move the ol Denon 3910 to 2ch duty..
  • I just picked one of these up at the local Goodwill! Anyone know if the separate analog 2 channel outputs will deliver full resolution audio from Blu-rays? I assume that playback of CD's will sound better on this than my S790 but I'll get it hooked up soon and compare.

I would bet that the BDP51FD will sound much better than the Sony S790. The Pioneer has the Wolfson DAC's , this was a big selling point for the unit.

only one way to find out get your read on.

I do know one thing the last firmware upgrade disabled the Component RCA's so that only the HDMI can be used. I bought it as my Denon 3805 doesn't have HDMI but thank god I ran the HDMI to my Panny HDTV and 7.1 to my receiver it all gooooooood.

Turning it around, is there a best place to put it on these players?

Meet a new cable convert. If time allows I'll DM (wife) my blueray player for the heck of it!

Back on track, Did the player need any work or did someone just give up on it?
How do you like it? I was in the market for one some time ago...
  • I plugged it in last night and spun a few CDs with no issues. I tested it out briefly with a blu-ray and HDMI which worked fine as well. I haven't figured out for sure if the analog 2 channel outputs were giving me the uncompressed audio from the blu-ray yet but everything seems to be working properly. It sounds very nice so far. Even came with the remote.

Now the tough decision to keep or flip. I've been debating trying to get rid of a few vintage pieces to fund the purchase of a nice integrated. Just had a Classé CAP-151 come through my shop and fell in love. Sheesh, if only money were no object.

Dang DSkip I dynamated but you took it to a whole new level:)
  • My concern about the RCAs was that when I ran HDMI to the receiver and 2 channel RCA out to the power amp the receiver didn't say it was receiving the HD master audio, just PCM. When I run the Sony to the receiver with HDMI the icon lights up with the same disc saying it's getting the uncompressed master track. The manual didn't seem to have a ton of info about the 2 channel outs, plenty of charts etc about the other digital outputs and available formats.

I think you must have a setting in your Sony player that's set to bitstream correct? The icon on the avr that's lit up is for the TrueHD or DTS-HD MA ? Otherwise if the setting in the Sony is set to LPCM and that shows up on the avr.
