Newbie, SL2000 upgrade to RDO198, etc.

New member here. Interesting forum glad I found it.
I joined because I inherited a pair SDA SRS a while ago but...
... there seem to be a whole lot of dead links in the various upgrade
threads. I was able to track down vr3mods but even some of the links
to other Polk sites are dead. Whats up doc? Is there a secret way to
get to the older info?
I am amazed at how good these old (1986?) SDA SRS speakers sound. But
the tweats are just harsh (bright?) so after reading a bunch of these
threads I ordered RDO198s to upgrade.
This means I will have 8 SL2000 available in a few weeks. Best I can
tell they are all good: no visible damage etc. They each have a
paper sticker on the back dated Aug 26, 1986.
My question: do these have any value or does anyone want them?
Am not geedy pay for shipping etc. I assume I can ship them in
RDO198 packaging once I get them installed. PM if interested.
I started researching caps for the Xovers as next step but am
upgrading things one at time to see how each change affects sound.
It appears all of the poly replacement caps are too big to just solder
into the original location. I saw there used to be pics of some
upgrades but the links are all dead now. Anyone have some pics using
the original circuit board /w new caps?
Thanks.

The RD0198-1 tweeters in the SDA SRS's will not sound even close to right and no, you cannot modify the crossover to use them. When you get them do NOT install them as they will no longer be new. Just call Polk and explain you ordered the wrong ones, return them and order the RD0194-1.
Also, you cannot try to sell your old tweeters here until you have 100 posts and then your ad must be posted in the Flea Market section.Political Correctness'.........defined

The RDO 198 is not the correct upgrade for the SL2000...at least not without crossover modifications.
The correct direct upgrade for the SL2000 is the RDO 194."Some people find it easier to be conceited rather than correct."

Thanks ZLTFUL. Too late... 198's are in the mail. I could swear that I saw that 198s were recommended for the original SDA SRS but not sure where. Sigh. How hard is it to update the Xover? Any detailed info available? Thanks again.

This link has all the circuit diagrams for all of the SDA and SRS models.

Thanks TNTsTunes. I had the schematic but not the wiring diagram. I know there won't be any damage using 198s /w the original Xover, so since they are coming I will just install and try. Gary at Polk seemed to think the 198s were a good match (or at least didn't say they were wrong as SL2000 replacements). I should have asked more question though. My bad. Still could use info re Xover mods for 198 vs. SL2000. I do plan on replacing the electrolytic caps next.

It sounds like you've got the original SDA SRS's and I hate to tell you this but you ordered the wrong tweeters.
The RDO-194 is the replacement for the SL-2000 and the RDO-198 is the replacement for the SL-3000.
Unfortunately when polk changed forum software all links to old content got broken, so all you can do is search for them but be warned all the links to pictures that were stored in the old forum broke and the pictures just seem to be gone for good.“The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why.” ~ Mark Twain -
My advice is to listen to F1nut and Gimpod - they're knowledge of and experience with SDA is wide ranging."Science is suppose to explain observations not dismiss them as impossible" - Norm on AA; 2.3TL's w/sonicaps/mills/jantzen inductors, Gimpod's boards, Lg Solen SDA inductors, RD-0198's, MW's dynamatted, Armaflex speaker gaskets, H-nuts, brass spikes, Cardas CCGR BP's, upgraded IC Cable, Black Hole Damping Sheet strips, interior of cabinets sealed with Loctite Power Grab, AI-1 interface with 1000VA A-L transformer
