Oh, Listen here mister. We got no way of understandin' this world. But we got as much sense of this bird flyin in the sky. Now there is a lot that bird don't know, but it don't change the fact that the world is happening to him all the same. We liked that as a family too. Seems talking about what the worst movies are beats talking about what the best movies are! We watched "Safe Haven" last night (wife and I) and that was a winner.........for us. I know it's all personal and everyone has an opinion.

"Fury", with Brad Pitt, Shia La Boef, Jon Bernthal, etc. One of best movies I've seen about the life of a soldier, combat, WWII, etc.

If you are into movies that are off beat or weird I would suggest a couple that i rented recently.

Locke - Tom Hardy - quite a performance that is in the same vein as Robert Redford's All Is Lost

Enemy - Jake Gyllenhaal - pretty out there, but interesting. DONT WATCH IF YOU HAVE SPIDER PHOBIA.

These movies are from the same production company and put out some cool indie films.

I want to see the these movies in the theater: Nightcrawler, Interstellar, and Birdman.

Locke???? All is Lost???? They are sleepers to me, I mean, the kind of movie that I would be asking for a refund from if I were to waste the time in a theater, I know it's personal taste but those 2 are among the worst I could imagine and would not recommend to anyone I cared about. Sorry, again personal taste here I know, Glad you like those flicks!! I want to see Nightcrawler as well!! Thanks

Not to start riff but only express an opinion....we found Blended one of the worst movies we have ever seen and regretted taking our kids. The 'kicked in the nuts' humor was bad on many levels, and the story was dumb. Weird...I consider my liberal on many fronts, but I cringed exposing our kids to this.

Not new but out on rental. The latest X-men film. I'm giving it a Thumbs up. Not bad. Saw it on B-ray last night. Good pacing, decent story-line. Good mix of old and new. Would appreciate a Mike LeKeiko review though? They're the "best"!

Thumbs down (also rented last night)? The latest Godzilla, although there are some OK monster fight scenes here and there, the film fails in the end and I'm an ORIGINAL fan of the RUBBER suit Godzillas! So what does that tell you?

I can recommend "Birdman" the casting and acting was top notch. A very dark comedy.

Wifey and I watch tons of movies here, all kinds, with emphasis on indies. So here's three we'd recommend as our favorites this year:

    1) "Loveship Hateship," Starring Kristen Wiig. Probably the best movie we've seen this year. Most of you probably haven't heard of it unless you're a big indie fan, but Wiig's performance, IMO, is one of those once-in-a-lifetime performances. Reminiscent of the one Michael Shannon gave in "Take Shelter." It's a story about a kind of frumpy, 30-something female caregiver who starts having feelings for a man for the first time in her life and how she clumsily deals with it and is such a decent soul, lacking the ability or desire to judge others. For all the movies out there with awful, predictable endings, this one's a breath of fresh air. Great and satisfying ending to a great and satisfying film.

    2) "Maleficient." Angelina Jolie OWNS the title role with some of the best acting we've seen from her. Not your typical Disney movie, this one is a kind of a re-imagining of the "Sleeping Beauty" tale. Excellent visuals and marvelous DTS soundtrack. Will be buying this one on 3D Blu Ray as one of my reference movies.

    3) "A Million Ways to Die in the West." Love "Family Guy?" Love "Ted?" You'll laugh your **** off then with this offering from one of our favorite funny guys, Seth MacFarlane. Don't love Seth? Don't love potty humor? You'll probably hate this one. Go read "War and Peace," instead.

I would have to disagree with those who liked "Blended." We love Sandler and Barrymore but this one felt very forced and contrived to us. Almost switched it off a few times.

Went to see the Hunger Games new one last night, got there about twenty minutes early and every space in the lot was full, even the overfill lot was full, they said there were only a couple seats left, went in and only a few in the very front row, got my money back, maybe try again in a few days or whatever. Maybe not. Lots and lots of teen and pre-teen girls. They really dig that Katniss.

  • Thanks for the heads up. I am saving dough and just watching movies on our Samsung 559000 4K set and loving it. I know there is still magic in the imax theaters, so when we go to moviess, that's the way we like to see them. Kinda dwarfs the home tv when we do that though?? lol Just sat through "Into the storm" last night and acting was bad the tornado scenes were awesome.
