Welcome to the club ! (What's left of it, anyway.)
-
Congrats on your new speakers. Great price. What ya hooking em to ?..
-
since i last posted 'the club' has changed much.
always wanted a pair of the m10 speakers. connected to a HK stereo receiver 80wpc. mostly watch TV, but listen to a few movies and music CDs. -
The 10s are where it began for me. Cool find and great price.
-
thanks. & these things look almost 'showroom fresh'. no dings, scratches, etc. just a little dust on the crossover case.

I picked up some 10's not long ago and they are my Favorite speaker right now, When I'm going to listen to 2 channel music my 10's are what I use!2 ch- Polk CRS+ * Vincent SA-31MK Preamp * Vincent Sp-331 Amp * Marantz SA8005 SACD * Project Xperience Classic TT * Sumiko Blue Point #2 MC cartridge

never really transitioned to surround. stereo is fine 4 me. forgot to mention that the stands were included with the m10s.

Nice on getting the stands! I had some made for me that just arrive Saturday. I had Dave (Westmassguy) redo my crossovers and he did a TL mod that let me use Polk's newer RDO-198-1 tweeters and I was in heaven once I burned in those new crossovers. If you do some back reading here on monitor 10's you will see many threads on upgrades people have done.
But mainly just enjoy those 10's2 ch- Polk CRS+ * Vincent SA-31MK Preamp * Vincent Sp-331 Amp * Marantz SA8005 SACD * Project Xperience Classic TT * Sumiko Blue Point #2 MC cartridge

thanks to all on the comments. i do like them. like to find one of the sda systems that someone wants gone real bad due to WAF being real low. WAF rules!
what is TL mod? these m10 have the silver coil tweeter. yes, many mods. on m7 also. -
Dave can explain it better then I can on the TL mod. but what it does is allow you to upgrade your tweeters to the rdo-198's , otherwise you can only upgrade to the RDO-194 tweeters. also there are things you can do to the cabinets to make them better like replace the screws for the PR's and driver with Hurricane nuts. and adding 2 3x12 strips of blackhole 5 (sound damping material) starting at bottom of drivers & going up to top of cabinets on the back wall. and taking all the stuffing inside and moving it up to the bottom of the drivers and up to the top and having nothing behind you big PR. stuff like that will improve the overall sound. care need to be used when drilling out the holes for the Hurricane nuts using 3 drill bit sizes and slowing making the hole bigger for the hurricane nuts.2 ch- Polk CRS+ * Vincent SA-31MK Preamp * Vincent Sp-331 Amp * Marantz SA8005 SACD * Project Xperience Classic TT * Sumiko Blue Point #2 MC cartridge

i'm uncertain, but it seems from poking around here, that if the system is "TL'ed", it is upgraded to the TL series tweeter w/ crossover component replacements. i seem to recall that one of the experts here claimed that the inductor upgrade didn't help much, that the real benefit was from the replacement of the caps and resistors, which i plan to do when i have the time. certainly a 25 year old speaker system needs these replaced. i have an additional pair of m10 crossovers here and noticed tonight that the winding is not uniform, but is a little sloppy. they might be hand wound. electrically speaking this might not have much effect, but aesthetically speaking, it will.

here is a pic if it works this time of my crossover after Dave had redone them with the old caps and stuff in the picture as also.

didn't realize the pc boards would require replacement. but if the replacement caps are larger...

If I am not mistaken, Dave used the original board (bottom) and fashioned the top board out of masonite to mount 34 uf capacitor. -
right. the upper 2 appear new.

It can be done WITHOUT additional (stacked) boards, but it's not as stable; still sounds great though. Here's a link to an article I wrote about my experience:

electrically the capacitance of a pair of caps wired in parallel doubles, so why not use 2 smaller caps wired in parallel to reduce the physical size over that of a single large cap?

Besides the added cost of two caps instead of one, if the values are not the same, sonic anomalies may result, which some, with trained ears can hear.

i should have added same value capacitors. that's what i meant.
