LSim703

Due to the configuration of my new living room, I'm looking to replace my trusty LSi15's. The new two channel system won't be ideal, but I'd like some input regarding what to expect and/or recommendations...

I have built-in cabinet on each side of a fireplace. Current plan is to put LSi703's on top of the cabinet... so about 7' up :( and I have an SVS SB13Ultra that will go in one of the base cabinets behind some acoustic mesh. Am I going to be happy with this setup? Will imaging suck? Do I need to "aim" the LSim703's so that they point down toward the listening area?

supporting gear... ADCOM GFA555, Outlaw 975 preamp, ALAC files on computer.

Oh... looks like I haven't updated my signature in a really really long time, so don't pay much attention to it...
Thanks, Aaron

Any speaker that high up isn't going to give you the best sound even if they are angled down.

So, this seems like a ridiculous question because I'm no sure how you would quantify it but...how bad will it be? A waste of an LSim or just not as good as it could be??

I could be wrong, but my thought would be that if that is the ONLY place you could put a speaker....you would want the best speaker possible there.

Of course, it wouldn't be ideal, but again, if that is the ONLY place your situation would allow, I don't think it would be a waste of any speaker.

And the LSiM's are VERY nice speakers.

I'm used to a pretty nice sounding, pure, 2-channel system which is what makes this decision suck. Sad to give up the Lsi15's but nut sure I have a great alternative.

Oh...love the SVS SB13 Ultra though. Already integrated that with the LSi's in another room for now.

Do you have any space in your new setup for a properly placed speaker?

Also, that is a hell of a sub, but not sure how it will sound in a cabinet.

No space for a proper setup I did check with Svs regarding the sub in the cabinet and as long as it is as close to the front of the cabinet as possible, all should be fine. The sub is a beast but the room is 40' long and 19' wide.

If that's what you have to work with...don't worry about going with the 703's. They will make you happy and it will not be a waste.

Have you consider lsi7's. You could hang those pretty much anywhere

Yea. I did consider Lsi7's, but the volume of the room these are going into is huge and I thought the LSim703's would do a better job filling the room with sound. Since I'm happy with my LSi15's, I could probably try the 7's and see if I'm happy with them.... but the situation is also an opportunity for me to step up the new LSim's as well. That is, of course, unless my less than ideal placement will negate the benefits of the Lsim703's over the Lsi7.
