To wrap this up, it's been quite the ordeal.
Monday, Nov. 3, I went to the Sears outlet store and bought a new dishwasher that was to be installed on Thurs., Nov. 6.
Here's where the adventure begins.
Wednesday we get a call telling us that the installers are behind schedule and it will be Monday before they can get out. Not good, but we'll deal with it.
Monday the installer shows up and installs the new dishwasher...and it leaks due to a bad seal. I immediately head back to the store to get something worked out. Against my better judgement, I decide to pick out another dishwasher from the outlet store. They "upgrade" me to a better dishwasher for the same price.
Installers will be out on Wednesday. A different installer stops by the store to pick up the dishwasher on Wednesday and it has inexplicably been put on the delivery truck. Since the installer has no idea when it will be delivered, he can't do it on Wednesday.
Reschedule for Friday. Original installer comes out and takes out the non-working unit that he had installed a week ago only to discover that an electrical box that is required for installation of the new dishwasher was not delivered with the unit.
Dishwasher was finally installed on Wednesday, a mere two weeks, three visits by installers, and numerous unpleasant phone calls later than expected.
Because of the non-working unit and delays, I got free delivery, installation, and haul away, upgrade to a better unit, and $275 off the price.
Oh, I ended up with a Bosch 800 Series.Things work out best for those who make the best of the way things work out.-John Wooden -

Nice new $800 or so kitchenaid has broken down twice in 6 months of ownership.
Took them about a month to fix the first time. Needless to say but, we are very dissappointed and feel like we were ripped off. Cheap piece of crap.
Wish i had bought a Bosch as we originally intended.
As for consumer reports.....
They rated the kitchenaid dishwasher #1.
Think we as consumers need a new lemon law / consumer advocacy group as these problems and issues are found with every major manufacturer in all home appliances.
-
I hope the saga proves to be worth it for you.
Our Bosch products have certainly out performed the KitchenAid and Asko products we have had in the last couple of decades.Family Room, Innuos Statement streamer (Roon Core) with Morrow Audio USB cable to McIntosh MC 2700 pre with DC2 Digital Audio Module; AQ Sky XLRs to CAT 600.2 dualmono amp, Morrow Elite Speaker Cables to NOLA Baby Grand Reference Gold 3 speakers. New appliances are complete poo. And the warranty guys take forever.
I got one week out of a Samsung front loader, not even one wash out of a Maytag
top loader, and the upper end Sears brand front loader blew a control board after
a year, and was down for a month. They make them all pretty and lots of
bells and whistles, but skimp on the stuff that makes them last.
My 1st washer I bought when I got married was a used $40 one that I ran
for years. And I sold it for $40 when the wife demanded a new one.
Now I can't get a year out of a $2k washer without an issue?"The legitimate powers of government extend to such acts only as are injurious to others. But it does me no injury for my neighbour to say there are twenty gods, or no god. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg." --Thomas Jefferson -

I hear ya on all that bro. All my Kitchenaid appliances have been huming along for 15 years now with zero problems. Then again they are from a time when Kitchenaid was Kitchenaid.
Scares me to have to buy appliances again when the time comes by all the stories I keep hearing. Are there any decent brands left ? Some of you guys like Bosch, but what else is there on the new market that doesn't cost used car kind of money ? How is LG or Samsung ? Same junk ?

Just bought all new kitchen appliances. fridge, electric stove, overhead microwave & dishwasher. Went to my trusted appliance repair guy and asked for his recommendation, he said Whirlpool. He said to buy the extended warranty for the fridge which was $109 for 5 yrs. He stated the two top failures on a fridge is the circuit board and compressor. He did not think I should do the extended on the others. I'm prepared for the short life of these. Wife had to have stainless.

Forgive me for stating the obvious....but....isn't a repair guy shooting himself in the foot by recommending appliances that will last ? Kinda like the lonely Maytag repairman of old ?HT SYSTEM-

I can help you out here!
speedqueen.com/home/en-us/products.aspx
SpeedQueen!!! They are still american made and built like tanks! They don't have all the bells and whistles. They still use rotary switches. But, they do exactly what they are supposed to do. Wash/dry clothes effectively and dependably.
My wife and I have a business that requires 4-6 loads of laundry done per week (in addition to our normal laundry). Because of this I knew none of the "consumer" brands would work. Been 2+ years with 8+ loads of laundry per week and they have been perfect.
I thought about doing the same for the dishwasher but hobart (sp?) cost like $4000.
-
I'll second the Speedqueen. Bought one last year, no bells and whistles....built like a tank. So far...knock on wood, has been great. Even has a better warranty than any other brand. Too bad they don't make kitchen appliances.HT SYSTEM-

I still open my Bosch dishwasher all the time to put dirty dishes in and the damn thing is running! I can't hear the thing and I'm standing right next to it. The old one groaned like a cow so loud that we couldn't run it at night. Forget about trying to watch TV.

He sells used appliances, thats where his bread & butter is.

My wife and I bought Asko dishwasher (2) and an Asko washer/dryer set when we bought our house 17 years ago. The dishwashers failed, were repaired, failed, and were taken to the dump.
I replaced them with Bosch dishwashers that were roughly in your price range, and -- touch wood -- they have performed well.
My daughter also purchased a Bosch dishwasher a couple of years ago, and she has been pleased with it so far.
For what it's worth, the Asko washing machine also failed, was repaired, etc., and finally went to the dump. The dryer still works (I think it was repaired once), but is not in use, except when my wife wants to use a delicate setting that it has and which is unlike such cycles on any other dryer we researched.
For what it's worth, one of our two Bosch dishwashers failed yesterday. The repairman said he doesn't have a clue how to repair it. He suspects it's a "control board" problem, and that if it is, it will likely not be worth repairing -- if the control board can be replaced.

Dunno how much they are now, but I love our Miele. German engineered, uses very little water (does 4gal sound right?), extremely reliable, SS, well insulated, dead quiet. I don't usually know it's on if I don't turn it on myself. Panel option to integrate with cabinetry.

Thanks for this advice and "testimony."
After our Asko washer "bit the dust," my wife and I purchased a Miele washer/dryer combo, and so far we've been satisfied -- albeit that we have had a couple of warranty claims that a Miele repair rep has handled gracefully.
One problem that has not been solved is in the Miele bleach dispenser: It releases drips that can spot clothes. So, we don't use bleach, which Miele claims is not necessary any way because of the temperature to which the machine heats the water.Family Room, Innuos Statement streamer (Roon Core) with Morrow Audio USB cable to McIntosh MC 2700 pre with DC2 Digital Audio Module; AQ Sky XLRs to CAT 600.2 dualmono amp, Morrow Elite Speaker Cables to NOLA Baby Grand Reference Gold 3 speakers.
