Need a New Dishwasher

Any recommendations?
I'd like stainless steel interior and exterior.
Want something that's relatively quiet.
Delayed start would be nice, but not required.
I'd like to keep under $800 for sure, preferably in the $600 range.
I'll probably buy from Sears, Home Depot, Lowes, or Best Buy unless someone knows of a better place. All of those places are nearby with good selections, but I'm obviously open to a "better' place to buy.
Also, I'd like to get something pretty quickly. My dishwasher has been out since Thursday and I'm already tired of hand-washing everything...lazy, right?

Kitchenaid
http://dishwasher-review.toptenreviews.com/
When our old SS GE dishwasher died prematurely I sent my GF to get a Kitchenaid from our friend who runs an appliance store..She came back with a $1200 ASKO which was highly recommended. Thru the first 3 months the ASKO broke down 3 times and the third time it broke down the tech order a pump and impeller assy. which was backordered for 30 days... I got tired of doing dishes and called my friend and told him to get it the **** out of my house and get the Kitchenaid in here... It has worked flawlessly since. 2+ years nowPost edited by Mikey081057 onMy New Year's resolution is 3840 × 2160

I have had a Kitchenaid DW going on 15 years now with zero problems. Of course todays might be a different story, I dunno, but all my appliances are Kitchenaid and roughly the same age with zero problems.
600 bucks though....you might want to check out the scratch and dent outlets.HT SYSTEM-

What do you do when your dishwasher is broke?
Slap the ****!
Just bought a Maytag a couple of months ago. It works...Where’s the KABOOM?!?! There’s supposed to be an Earth shattering KABOOM!!! -
I was WAY surprised when I purchased a new dishwasher from Home Depot recently. Went with an LG that was probably in the $700 range. The low shelf is way low ergonomically when I load it. I can of course do taller items, but I did not notice this when shopping.
The big difference is CYCLE TIME. The new one runs over 2 hours for a normal cycle. I later went on to figure out it wasn't my dishwasher that was bad...it was the detergent. the government regulated tri-sodium phosphate (TSP) out of most available dish detergent. Went to the home depot paint section and picked up some TSP. Wish I had kept the old dishwasher. -
Keeping the old one isn't an option. It literally doesn't work. The detergent "holder" is stuck shut. I took off the front panel and tried to get it to open from the backside with no luck. I've been of the opinion that this dishwasher is terrible ever since we moved in almost 4 years ago.
On the TSP, do you mix a little with detergent?
I'm about to go check out the local Sears outlet as they have several for 40-60% off. Tony, you're "scratch and dent" comment made me think of the outlet, so thanks. Looking at a few Kitchenaid models by the way.Things work out best for those who make the best of the way things work out.-John Wooden -

Consult with someone who repairs appliances daily. The new stuff out today will not last as long as the older units. Most of the new stuff today is pure crapp. I still have my Kitchen Aid units from the early 90's. Good luck!
-
With some stuff the warranty is a must. I wouldn't buy a front load washer without one. You'd think a dishwasher would run forever, but the classic appliance
stuff is long gone. Now you get a lot of shiny buttons and no dependability."The legitimate powers of government extend to such acts only as are injurious to others. But it does me no injury for my neighbour to say there are twenty gods, or no god. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg." --Thomas Jefferson -
Contemporary appliances are designed to so that they fail in 5-7 years. They are not your mother's Maytag appliances of the mid-1900s. She used them for 20 or so years, and she replaced them only because she wanted new models with new features.
My wife and I bought Asko dishwasher (2) and an Asko washer/dryer set when we bought our house 17 years ago. The dishwashers failed, were repaired, failed, and were taken to the dump.
I replaced them with Bosch dishwashers that were roughly in your price range, and -- touch wood -- they have performed well.
My daughter also purchased a Bosch dishwasher a couple of years ago, and she has been pleased with it so far.
For what it's worth, the Asko washing machine also failed, was repaired, etc., and finally went to the dump. The dryer still works (I think it was repaired once), but is not in use, except when my wife wants to use a delicate setting that it has and which is unlike such cycles on any other dryer we researched.

Top one on the page and it looks better in person than in the picture. Salesperson had to point out the minor cosmetic damage.
I agree that newer appliances are not too great. My house was built in late '05 and I moved in Feb. '12. I know this dishwasher has been terrible since then. It's a builders grade model and we've wanted to replace it for a while now. ZERO interest in having it repaired.
I passed on the extended warranty for now, but I may call back and have it added, especially being an open box type unit from an outlet store. Comes with a one year manufactures warranty, but I can add 3 yrs for $129 or 5 yrs for $199. One hesitation in adding it is the fact that I may not be living here in 3 years, much less 5 years.Things work out best for those who make the best of the way things work out.-John Wooden -
My parents have a Bosch and love it and have had no problems since it's purchase around 2005. I had a top of the line Amana in a brand new condo I built and loved it. It ran great with zero issues. We moved to Nevada and the house we have now had GE appliances when we moved in, minus the fridge. We got an Amana fridge. Whenever we replace the crappy GE dishwasher, it will be with another brand be it Bosch, Whirlpool or Amana. I will not buy a GE appliance based on my experiences with their appliances. We've had Whirlpool front loader washer/dryers since 2004 and they have performed flawlessly.Speakers

Bosch makes a decent product. Do your research though, some brands are all made by the same place with a different name plate slapped on it so I wouldn't expect a huge difference in performance or dependability.HT SYSTEM-

Definitely. There has been so much consolidation in the home appliance industry that the label tells you little about which company, ultimately, is responsible for the product. For example, I could be confused here, but I think Thermador, Bosch, and Gaggenau are all labels of one larger company now. KitchenAid used to be make by Hobart, but now, I think, it is owned by another manufacturer.
In any case, whether my specifics are correct, the general point is certainly true: The present labels, even though they are "traditional" US brands, may not tell the whole story.Family Room, Innuos Statement streamer (Roon Core) with Morrow Audio USB cable to McIntosh MC 2700 pre with DC2 Digital Audio Module; AQ Sky XLRs to CAT 600.2 dualmono amp, Morrow Elite Speaker Cables to NOLA Baby Grand Reference Gold 3 speakers. If given a choice.....I'd pick one with a rotary knob/dial over any bells and whistles, keypad type every time. I've gotten some valuable opinions and repair info from this site over the years, I'm not sure if it's still worthwhile or not. Maybe it is. http://fixitnow.com/samurai-appliance-repair-forums/

On the TSP, do you mix a little with detergent?
Yes, 1/2 tsp to tsp per wash when I add it. Be sure to mix the powder. If you soap doesn't open and the TSP is not mixed, it will "stain" stain your stainless inside. Feel free to google for discussion on adding TSP. I do it for a few washes when the dishes are getting dull.

Never used the TSP suggested, only because I'm not sure about putting cleaning chemicals on food grade stuff. Instead I use simple distilled white vinegar when the dishwasher starts building up and to clean the heating elements. My SS inside still looks brand new.HT SYSTEM-
