Not a big suprise, it was only a matter of time. I held off buying another plasma since my Panny is still going strong and I'm waiting for the prices of OLED's to descend from the stratosphere.

They're supposed to have a better pic than the best plasmas.

You might get burn in using a Plasma for a computer screen.

The 4k sets I demoed and the one I bought have just as nice a picture as a plasma and in a couple of years when prices drop on the OLED sets, and people buy them they will forget about their plasma that needed to be replaced. That's why Panssonic, LG, and Samsung went the direction they did.

got my 64f8500 a few weeks back. I love it. Most good leds have colors that will match plasmas. But its the blacks that make plasmas so great. OLEDs is the only thing that is better than or even close to a plasmas black. Flashlighting is the other thing I hate about leds I have yet to see one that doesnt have some sort of bloom or flashlighting.
This is coming from a diehard led/lcd fan and plasma hater. My tv changed me.

Aside from the visual part plasmas are just too expensive to make suck too much energy.

Good deal a 5 year warranty is a good purchase on a tv these days I bought a 5 year warranty for the 4k I bought at best buy and came to find out my Onkyo that I got from Magnolia is also covered under the plan as I purchased them the same day so it was like a two for one as far as the warranty goes on both the Sony and the Onkyo.

I usually say no to extended warranties but knowing these were both covered for 5 years was a no brainer and a major peace of mind.

The reason Plasma's are going bye bye is that they cannot meet "Energy saving " requirements in the next few years. I have a Panny and LOVE IT and was very disappointed to hear that Panasonic dropped them so I did some research.

I will concede that might be an option, but how often are you on one page without scrolling or moving for a long enough period of time for that to happen?

I'm normally hopping around like a bunny on acid when I am on the computer/internet so it shouldnt be a problem.

I also have my computer kill the monitor after 5 min of inactivity on the computer, so it should never be an issue....

That said because I'm cheap, I'm currently looking at a 39" Sharp Aquos LCD because I dont need something super huge in my loft to use as a monitor since I will be like 5 feet away.

I've had my 60'' hooked to the computer for over a year now and not a trace of burn in.

I have a Samsung 1080p plasma and made the mistake of burning in an image. The image was not strong and could only be seen if you had a light background like clouds. It lasted for a while but it eventually healed itself. So I would say that this plasma, at least, did burn in but it was not permanent.

^^^^ Burn in is permanent. What you had there was image retention. My LG plasma has a fantastic picture but it is more prone to image retention than other brands, usually score boards from watching football. It used to worry me but it has always gone away within a hour or less. I wouldn't worry to much about burn in.
Oh, Listen here mister. We got no way of understandin' this world. But we got as much sense of this bird flyin in the sky. Now there is a lot that bird don't know, but it don't change the fact that the world is happening to him all the same. What I am tryin to say is, is that the course of your life, well its changing, and you don't even see it- Forest Bondurant
