replacement driver for monitor 5

Hey folks-
I just bought a beautiful pair of Monitor 5's circa 1979 with Peerless tweeters. Magnets had slipped in the original mw6500 drivers (8 ohm), freezing them up, when they arrived. Disappointing... but I got a great deal on them and the cabinets, passive radiators and most importantly, those Peerless tweeters are in great shape. For the moment, I replaced the frozen 6500's with a pair of 6502's (4 ohm), I have from a pair of M4, Series 2. They sound okay, but have my eye on a pair of 6510's (8 ohm) engineered for SDAII's. Anyone here ever used one of these drivers in a monitor series speaker? Thanks!!

The 6502s @ 4ohms are crossing over around 1000 Hz instead of 2000 Hz, so you've got a big hole in the frequency response. They also have half the VAS of the 6500s, so you bass is much lower. My advice, would be to keep an eye on eBay for replacement 6500s. The 6510s will work better than the 6502s, but the T/S parameters between the older 6500s and the 6510 are quite a bit different.Home Theater/2 Channel:
