Polk Monitor 7 original vs rev with SL2000 schematics... same?
Mystery
Posts: 2,546
I looked at the schematics of original 7's (peerless?) and rev with SL2000 silver dome tweeters and they look almost same except tweeter inductor's value of .22mH in original vs .23mH in the ones with SL2000.
Does .01mH difference makes a huge difference in crossover frequency for the tweeter?

Rev with SL2000:

If they are same/similar, I want to swap the SL2000 with peerless.
Online calculator using just the capacitor and resistor mentions 12uF and 2.0 ohms cutoff frequency is : 6,631.45Hz.
Not sure how to calculate using the inductor value.
What say you?
Thanks

You can't use online calculators that use nominal values for the drivers. Most of Polks crossovers are 2way 2nd order, however the inductor, capacitor and resistor values are heavily modified/tweaked specifically for Polk drivers.
Can I ask why you'd want the Peerless? You'd be better off doing the Sl3000/TL Mod and putting RDO-198-1 Tweeters In my opinion. The 198s are superior to the Peerless to my ears.Home Theater/2 Channel:

Question. Is the RDO194 a drop in replacement for the SL2000 ? Without having to do upgrades ? Is the RDO194 as good/or better than the Peerless tweets? (Im thinking they gotta be better than the SL2000's) Ive never heard the RDO194's so i can comment on how they compare..

If my memory serves, most feel that the RD-0194 is better than the Peerless. Disclaimer: I've never heard either, though I plan on picking up the former for my RTA 12C's."Science is suppose to explain observations not dismiss them as impossible" - Norm on AA; 2.3TL's w/sonicaps/mills/jantzen inductors, Gimpod's boards, Lg Solen SDA inductors, RD-0198's, MW's dynamatted, Armaflex speaker gaskets, H-nuts, brass spikes, Cardas CCGR BP's, upgraded IC Cable, Black Hole Damping Sheet strips, interior of cabinets sealed with Loctite Power Grab, AI-1 interface with 1000VA A-L transformer

The RDO-194 is better than the SL2000 by leaps and bounds. As for the Peerless, some prefer them. The RDO-198-1 wipes the floor with all of them in my opinion, and I've heard all of them.
The RDO-194 is a drop-in replacement for the SL2000, no modifications required.Home Theater/2 Channel:

For 101.XX a pair-to your doorstep. Its a great deal for a simple 10 min upgrade...

I read about rdo's but the question is not about them.
I have to hear before I buy but I have peerless already.
Back to the original question, can sl2000 be replaced with peerless in monitor 7?

The 194's clearly are a big upgrade... I've done them on my 5B's and my SRS 2.3's. The best bang for the buck mod you can do for sure.My New Year's resolution is 3840 × 2160

Short answer is no. I had a pair of early Monitor 5s with original Peerless Tweeters.
The Resistor, Capacitor and Inductor values were different from the earliest Schematics contained in the Schematics Thread. The Electrical characteristics, SPL, and most likely the overall frequency range covered by the Peerless were different. If the were close, then the RDO-194s would be listed as replacements for them, they're not. In addition, the Peerless mounting flange is smaller, and the mounting holes are different.Home Theater/2 Channel:

Okay then.
Scratch that project.
I had a pair of 7's with peerless.
I still have pictures and values of crossover.
I'll open the 7C's and see what it looks like to compare against the ones with peerless.

Mystery, one other thing, the monitor 5s I had used MW6500 8 ohm drivers too.
That would have affected the cap and inductor values.
Newer 7s use the MW6502 4ohm woofers, but who know what the older ones did.Home Theater/2 Channel:
