I have two speaker sets of M5jrs. According to their labels. One is bigger with a passive and what look like Peerless tweeters and the other set have silver 1000 tweeters and one driver and port hole? Thanks. D

Yes. The Polk 5Jr has the port, the 5Jr+ has the passive. Pictures are always fun!

Darrell, what you have there is a very early Monitor 5Jr (ported) with an SL-2000 tweeter and a newer 5Jr (w/6-1/2" passive radiator) with an SL-2500 tweeter. The 2500 could be found stock in those newer ones and through the 5Jr Series 2 model. So, actually, there were more than two models of the 5Jr and if you counted the Monitor 5Jr+'s in there too....well, fugetaboudit!

... and they're all nice little loudspeakers!
Well, actually I've never seen nor heard the ported morph... but, given that it's, in essence, a variation of the original Monitor 4 (which had the Peerless silk dome tweeter) in a bigger box... I'd expect it to be pretty darned pleasant.
Apropos of nothing: I'd love to fill in the gaps in my Monitor Series collection... someday... :- P
And, as an even more pointless aside, I am still not 100% sure what Flavor Monitor 5 I have a pair of...

I was always under the impression that 5's with the sl2000 were 5B's.mhardy6647 wrote: »... and they're all nice little loudspeakers!

Those do look awesome, Steve. Did you ever get around to veneering your RTA-11Ts? I noticed they're not in your sig. Can't imagine you'd have gotten rid of them, given your Forum ID.

Yes "full sized" Monitor 5 -- I thought they were 5B but I've been told they're later than the 5B would have been. The S/N simply starts with "5".
At any rate, they sound good -- and they'd sound better with another tweeter.

Do the SL3000 Mod to them and put the RDO-198s in.Home Theater/2 Channel:

SL3000 AKA "TL" Mod. If you look in the vintage, non-sda schematics section, you'll find it. Applies to the Monitor 7s also.

I'm not a big fan either, actually -- tho' there are some squash recipes I enjoy. Generally they have lots of stuff in 'em to drown out the squash taste.
