We are in lockdown here in downtown ottawa. A soldier was shot 2 blocks from me and one gunman shot dead 2 blocks north of me at our parliament buildings. There were more than one shooters all buildings are in lockdown.

    Stay safe! I woke up to this news today and it took me a second cup of coffee to process it! We don't expect to hear that kind of stuff from our Canadian neighbors. Down here, sure, we have all kinds of nuts floating around with vendettas and some who even receive signals from aliens? But Canucks with cracks? No way!

    Really don't expect much more info from American media on this. After all, the protests in Hong Kong are still going strong and WHO here is covering that? A minute here a minute there, perhaps during the weekend news! American News, you've gotta love that! Self-centered, uninformed, jingoistic, full of fear-mongering and let's not forget that it's TOTALLY driven by RATINGS. I thought "competition" was supposed to be "good". But competition for BIG MONEY seems to F... all MEDIA, F... it all up to the point that you waste your time even listening or reading it! Damn "market" I guess NO one ever thinks about "greed", the worship of Mammon (Mammon /ˈmæmən/, in the New Testament of the Bible, is material wealth or greed, most often personified as a deity, and sometimes included in the seven princes of H-E-L-L.)! If our Media is governed by a Prince of H-E-L-L who speaks with a forked tongue...well that pretty much includes the Right and Left there because that's the FORK! And our politics are beholden to Demons-note to self: great idea for a TV series Pilot! lol

    Tell me this wouldn't make a cool character CONSTANTLY whispering its DIRECTIVES into GOP and DEM ears in D.C.?

    Left downtown even while on lockdown my wife and I drove to daycare picked up our kids and are home safe and sound. They told us we can't stop you from leaving but if you must or really want to. Ya we did to see our 2 kids.

    My biggest fear right now is the Government increasing their power in the name of our "safety"....like another government we need not mention.

    I am already hating the governments address to this.

    As bad as this is I am glad it wasn't worse because it sure could have been.

    Mick, WE need to stay vigilant and awake, aware. It is up to us to prevent this crap from happening. Government (Federal all the way down) can only "follow up" after the shooting starts. Citizens can handle it in real time, if we are prepared for the circumstances.

    I think the fact that only one person got killed (along with the perpetrator) here is a phenomenally good response in this situation.

    Having said that I do not believe that we can stop this kind of thing nor would I want steps to be taken to stop it. This kind of thing is just gonna happen every once in a while. It's just the price of having an open and free society. I'll take my chances.
