Best power amps and receivers with a lot of power....

Hey, I had a different thread on here about speakers, and I was pointed in the direction of looking for a new receiver with pre-outs for an amp..... I started this one to get opinions and first hand experience with any good quality receiver with preouts and an amp... The speakers I need powered will be the TSX 550T's. I am a drummer and will be using these things to play drums too, from music on my MacBook Pro. I don't want to break the bank, and my budget might be $500 for the receiver and amp, as I need speakers, a receiver, and an amp. Thanks.....

Yeah, I know... That's why before I jump in, I wanted some opinions, especially with used. I mean't to add that I was most likely going to buy used in my post, but I didn't want to keep babbling... Thanks. -
2- channel? Adcom 545 comes to mind. That was my first amp and it's a great piece that can be had for around $200...I think.

One of our members has a Marantz SR4023 stereo receiver, pretty new, light use available here. It has the pre outs you need for two channel, and is a fine sounding piece.

Or you could buy a refurb Onkyo TX-8050 here for $179.

Add a used Adcom GFA-545 and you're in business!

Good point, Ken! To be perfectly honest; I don't know what Polk would want us to do now? So I just threw it out there, so now someone can respond to this conundrum, perhaps?

Really?????? Get a pair of Vic Firth Iso cans and play along with all your favorite bands. Save your coin and get a nice set up when the $$'s are flowing. Best advice you will get right there!"if it's not fun, it's not worth it & remember folks, "It's All About The Music"!!

This ^ ^ ^ Cheaper and will be better suited for what you're doing.
Or do what I do: I use a pair of Sony MDR 7506 semi isolating phones, so I can hear the music and the nuances of what I'm playing. Much cheaper and works great, don't have to blast the music either."Science is suppose to explain observations not dismiss them as impossible" - Norm on AA; 2.3TL's w/sonicaps/mills/jantzen inductors, Gimpod's boards, Lg Solen SDA inductors, RD-0198's, MW's dynamatted, Armaflex speaker gaskets, H-nuts, brass spikes, Cardas CCGR BP's, upgraded IC Cable, Black Hole Damping Sheet strips, interior of cabinets sealed with Loctite Power Grab, AI-1 interface with 1000VA A-L transformer -
I'm trying to vision just what you are trying to do....You want to play along with the songs right? Are you trying to create a stage atmosphere or studio one?...

Stage atmosphere... I have phones for studio settings. I will sometimes like to crank the music and just play with friends or family members who play instruments. On holidays, it's almost a ritual for everyone to come listen to me play the music, hence the stage atmosphere.... I live in a big house with a lot of land and great neighbors who like the music, not an apartment, so I have freedom whenever to play the music or drums as loud as I want too. Thanks. -
What you are going to need to put the spurs to those towers is something in the 150-200w rms side range...more like a good pro amp...more durable...Don't know if you will find one in your budget range ...if you could double your budget...then you will be in there...

Gave this some thought and in all my years of playing, never have I had to or wanted to play along with any stereo?? I have however and still do play material through my small (but mighty) PA system?? A drummers friend as well is nice to have a PA set up. Make the players come to you for rehearsal!! Hope that helps??"if it's not fun, it's not worth it & remember folks, "It's All About The Music"!!
