What's this Sharethis BS?

I usually stay in the Vintage speaker forum but I think this would be a better place to vent my frustration with the new forum changes. I have been trying to tolerate the new changes but now I'm getting a box that pops up that says ShareThis! I don't know what it is for but it is BS. If I wanted to share something I can do it without needing a reminder to do it. I don't need any help using a forum. I don't need any badges or happy faces or any of the other BS that has been added to this new and improved forum. All I want to do is read and post messages on the forum but it is getting ridiculously harder do with all the improvements. If this nonsense continues I will be gone. I will build my own vintage polk forum. I might be the only member of it and have to talk to myself but at least I won't have to put up with BS like ShareThis!

Using Chrome, if I accidentally roll over the green Share This button or the Email button, the popup appears. Have to click outside the popup to continue.

I use firefox. I've had this to popup several times today. It's been happening for about a week or longer. There is also a green share button below my post but this box just randomly pops up. This is the only site where I've seen this. I doubt I'm the only person having this problem. I see this share problem as just a ripple on a sea of misfortune for the new and improved Vanilla forum. I can't find anything about the changes that were made that I like.

It's done it to me a few times in Chrome. It only happens if your mouse passes over the green button. You don't have yo actually click on it.

Rather annoying, but you learn to avoid it.

You guys are correct about rolling over the green button causing the popup. I will try to avoid it but we shouldn't have to compensate for a poorly designed forum. I realize this forum is free and we are guests here. Usually when you invite guests in you are supposed to try to accommodate them. Not do what you can to run them off.

Good to hear from you. Still kicking. Grilling steaks sounds like more fun that reading a forum for sure.

I see the share links and such in Safari, but none of them ever pops up or gets in my way. I think they're kinda silly, but I don't notice them now so it's not even mildly annoying...

I've seen the pop up using Safari also, never really played attention the same with the pop up telling you what somebody posted in another thread that you posted on they don't annoy me much at all. I could care less about the badges I guess I earned them so be it, I guess we all will have to all adapt to the changes, don't see them changing this late into it.

This is typical Social Media C R A P. Everyone who replied to this thread shares already, we don't need a popup reminding us to do so. Apparently, they think we're all 16 year olds who spend 90% of our time texting, tweeting and posting on Facebook.....

Good points David, and as I know a lot of people live on facebook and such, I am remaining open to changes, but not really digging em all! I will never become a Postaholic and you can see who those are pretty easily here. Cracks me up!

Hey Ripper! I really don't need to know every detail of what my friends are doing every minute of every day. If I feel a burning need need to "share", I pick up the phone and actually speak to the person, or email them. The only reason I'm on Facebook is for the Business.
I have zero use for a Smart Phone of any flavor. I think the smarter the phones get, the dumber the operators becomes.
    End of rant.

I am running Firefox and I have a blocker running in the background all the time.
It's called "Ghostery", it's a free adware, tracker, cookie installer and everything else out there blocker. I have been running it for two years now and it's has only missed one ad installer in all that time.

Right now it's blocking Gravatar and ShareThis. On some sites I have seen it blocking as many as sixty tacking methods at one time.

Or, some really twisted logic is saying Polk is a business, and they can do what they want. Really? Ignoring customers is the new business strategy? Until this forum is restored, I will not even recommend Polk to anyone asking about stereo gear.

Anyway, in regard to the popup, with an iPad, that never occurs.

Well, they can do whatever they want Fox, but not without consequence, be it good or bad. This forum, as much as we are all fond of it, represents a small portion of the Polk customer base. We may have 5g+ registered members but how many are actively using this forum ?

The forum itself is just one avenue of marketing, one aspect of social media. It's understandable from a business standpoint wanting to increase exposure.

That said, it seems Polk's presence at Polkfest was meant to quiet the uprising of discontent. If the company really wanted to do more, they'd have some reps signed up here participating in concerns rather than leaving it all on Kens shoulders and delegated to one house full of Polk supporters in Jersey. How many reps are signed up on Facebook ? Just asking because I don't know but willing to bet more than here.

Communication is key, and it is this area I personally feel Polk is letting slide. This forum should be the central point of communication, not an after thought, which is evident by the location of the forums link on the home page.

Us old farts....we get tired of words. Actions speak louder. You can tap dance and say all the things you want customers and members to believe, but that doesn't make it so. You have to actually follow through and do something.....within a reasonable time frame to boot.

It's the interaction with Polk and it's customer base that builds brand loyalty....aside from good products offered. It's a relationship....and many feel like they are being ignored. Ken can't do it all, even though the man tries his very best every day. We need more Polk reps answering questions, communicating, addressing concerns here, not on twitter/facebook. I don't think that's such an unreasonable request, is it ?
