PSW1000 . fuse keeps blowing.

So last week I realize my subwoofer was unplug, so I plugged it in. the switch was on the on position and once I plug it in I got a pop noise. So I pull the fuse see that it blew so I went to radioshack. I got 5amp 250volt slow blow as I dont have a manual and didnt think about the forums until yesterday. But ive put 4 fuses in and they blow immediately or when I turn the power on. Anyone tinker with these subwoofers or local and can help me out? I got noisey neighbors and would like to keep them in check with bass lol

The PSW1000 is pretty old, the same age is the PSW650s I used to own... When the amp died, they could not replace or repair it. They will probably offer you a discount on a new subwoofer.
  • After taking it apart I see that a green resistor mark as DSP 056 is fried. Try to get one of those and go from there

Looking for that green cap I can't find any info on it.

It blew where the power goes to board

I have the LSiW, which I believe is the same sub. It was recalled for spontaneous combustion, but I never returned mine. After some change, it was renamed to PSW1000. Anyway, I have made the mistake of plugging it in while turned on, but, so far, it still works. Knock on wood.

  • Hello,
I don't believe that is a capacitor, rather it looks to be a thermistor. The "TH2" designator on the circuit board and the "DSP" part ID. When you say it's fried, how did you determine that?
    Regards, Ken
  • When I get home I can take a pic of it. The green thing was broke and appears to be burnt the 1 picture above is on another board I realized it was the same looking.

  • If it is a thermister it could be used to limit the inrush current by acting as a resistor at room temperatures. Then as current flows through it the temperature increases and the resistance goes down letting more current flow. You would need to know what the starting resistance is and what it reduces to after warmup. You could remove the working one and measure it's resistance at room temperature then heat it with a hair dryer and see what it drops down to, also the current rating would have to be considered.

Thanks I'll get a volt meter and give it a shot.

I have a DSW Micropro4000 amp that did the same thing, That green disc shaped "thermister" went kablamo. Should I send it in for repair? My PSW1000 has a Dayton Audio SPA1000 mated to it with a modded port, The OE amp on that one was toast, so it was replaced with the Dayton.
    Thank you!

I have the same problem with mine. I've emailed Art in Vista, CA. and I also left a voice mail for him at the beginning of the week and still no response!
I hope Polk contacts me soon, I'd like to get this amp it fixed. (DSWMicroPro4000).

Sorry for the neck bending photos. When I uploaded them, they were normal right side up. Don't know what happened.

I can change the damaged thermistors, but lack the proper equipment to test the amp, to see what went wrong. I'm more confident at soldering now... no more shaky hands from being nervous about causing further damage.

I still would prefer having Polk repair the amp. It just gives me the piece of mind.

I know about not having enough time to really trouble shoot the amp to see what actually set the dominoes in motion to cause the damage. We were blessed last weekend with our 2nd addition to the family! So my daughter has been keeping me up all night.(no time). I have the graveyard shift of feeding her and changing her diapers!

It's ok, when our son was born, it provided me with the "daddy" duty of all nighters!
