Instead of culling the herd, as usual, more comes in and less goes out.
Today's haul:
SDA-2A (homemade blade/blade interconnect)
Crown XLS1500 (300 wpc @ 8 ohms and looks nice but awfully light). Any experience?
Luxman R-114 receiver, already have another in bedroom.
Sansui AU 3900 receiver.

Subwoofers: Klipsch RW10, Triad ProSub Bronze.

    Thanks guys.
The speakers are in great condition except some nicks here and there.
Wow! Nice. The Crown is a fav amp of CD exchanges. Just need some JBLs
    I have/had quite few JBL's.
    Still have L80t3.

I searched threads here and looks like the XLS series amps are pretty good with Polks.
    Online reviews overall are excellent.
PO was using XLS1500 with Luxman R-114 as pre-amp to power the 2A's.
It's only 9lbs and less than 8" deep but puts out amazing amount of class D power.

    Crown XLS1500 Tech Specs:
    Number of Channels 2
    Power Class Class D
    Watts/Side @ 8 ohms 300W
    Watts/Side @ 4 ohms 525W
    Watts/Side @ 2 ohms 775W
    Watts Bridged 1050W @ 8 ohms
Cooling System Internal heat sinks with forced-air cooling
    DSP No
    Filters No
    Inputs 2 x XLR, 2 x 1/4", 2 x RCA
    Outputs 2 x Binding Posts, 2 x SpeakON
    Rack Spaces 2U
    Height 3.5"
    Depth 7.7"
    Width 19"
    Weight 8.6 lbs.

Let's see how it compares with my Rotel RB-990BX.
This guy at hometheaterequipment has great results using XLS drivecore amps with high end speakers.

    http://www.hometheaterequipment.com/mono-stereo-amps-59/crown-audio-xls-drivecore-series-amplifier-official-thread-1319/

This thread has user reviews using this amp with Polk Monitor 70's, Martin Logan, Revel Salon 2's etc... and all are positive.

That Crown amp is 2 ohm stable and puts out 775 watts/channel and is only 8 pounds?! Is it class D?

Didn't you just get rid of some 2As or 2Bs recently??

I believe FACE is running a few Crown amps like that one in one of his rigs, perhaps Tri-amping speakers?

  • The Crown looks interesting as it has a built in crossover.

Would it be possible to use two, one per channel, and use the built in crossover to by pass the internal c/o in Monitor 7,10,11s? That would give you 300 watts and selectable c/o points for treble and bass drivers.

The Crown XLS series are sold everywhere and sales on them are easy enough to find. Just add a biamp binding post on the back of the speaker and you're done. Not old school kosher but it gets the job done.

Unless of course I'm missing something....

Yes, Polk SDA's come and go.
Man! I have had quite a few pairs of SDA's that went through my hands.
    2 pairs of CRS+, 4 pairs of 2's, 3.1TL's.
Only CRS+ is left that I'm thinking of upgrading and giving it one more chance to survive in my collection.

    I don't see any crossover on XLS1500.
All it has is option for bridged vs stereo mode.
Good thing is it has regular RCA in as inputs so no need for 1/4" TRS adapter to use with home pre-outs.

EDIT: Never mind. It has digital menu for crossover settings.
I haven't even used it once yet.
Looks like you need at least two of these to use for crossover as one only uses one channel input at a time and sends crossover-ed signals out from both channels.
    Crossover Mode
When using the “Crossover Mode”, the amplifi er is confi gured to use a LowPass
Filter on Channel 1 and a HighPass Filter on Channel 2.
Before you get started ensure that you:
    1. Connect signal source to Channel 1
    only
using either the XLR, ¼ Inch, or
    RCA connectors.
    2. Connect a speaker to each channel output using Speakon
    ®
    , Banana Plugs,
    or bare wire.
Follow these quick steps to confi gure the amplifi er for “Crossover Mode”:
    1. Hold the “Mode/Menu” button down for 3 sec until the LCD screen displays
    “Amp Mode <More>”.
    2. Press the “Mode/Menu” button to begin confi guring the Amp Mode.
    3. Press the “Next” button until the LCD screen displays “Input Y”. Now press the “Mode/Menu” button to confi rm.
    4. Now press the “Next” button until the LCD screen displays “XOVER” and press the “Mode/Menu” button to confi rm.
    5. Now use the “Previous” or “Next” button to select your desired crossover point.
    6. Once you have selected your crossover point, press the “Mode/Menu” button to confi rm your selection. The LCD screen should
    now read “Input Y XOVER”.

It also has high and low pass mode but still need at least two amps or one amp and a subwoofer if using high pass.
Looks like multiple options are there.
