Sorry, can't find my previous thread in which I alluded to a possible purchase from the guy on CL out of Coos Bay Oregon (BFE - check your Urban Dictionary reference on that one). After 2+ months we finally circled on a mutual meet/exchange place... north Portland, OR... which was about equal-distant for both of us. I came down from the Seattle/Bellevue area. Still it was about a 340 mile round trip for me... quite worth it in my estimation.
$350 was the going price, which included the OEM stands. I tried to negotiate but he wasn't budging. So I took the POLKSDA collective advised and made a deal at his asking price. The speakers are in great shape, and yes.. if pics aren't included then it never really took place. So I'll get some pictures to validate the whole affair. Again these are the '+' model with pin/blade connector.
Happy with my purchase! I do intend to upgrade but I do have a pair of SRS2.3TL's in front of these needing attention...
I do have a lot of hobbies, and so I have Alfa Romeo (cars) and various lighting (antique) projects lined up that relegate my speaker upgrades a little farther down the priority list (I know, sacrilege!!). I hope to address upgrades for the 2.3's after the new year... and then the CRS+'s shortly there after.
I'm trying to complete my SDA1C upgrade (waiting on Larry Rings) to make that complete) ... all the cross overs and connection upgrades were handled by David/DHS Speaker (westmassguy).
David never ceases to amaze me with how quickly he responds to questions. Off hours, weekends, etc. This admiration is from a guy (me) in Telecomm who has worked the past 20 years in the operations arena. Damn David, way to represent! I'm impressed! Take a break where you can. Your responses (day & night, morning & evening!) keep me amazed... and this from a guy in network operations support who has responded to network trouble callouts, 24x7x365 for almost 20years in the biz.
David, thank you for your support!

Ron, just my two cents. I would do the CRS+ work before the bigger speakers. The bigger guys will be more expensive and more work, and will likely take more time and be more picky about amps, etc. Get those CRS+'s done, you'll be amazed what they can do, and you'll have them to listen to while you're working on the larger speakers. Just my opinion...Good music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Tubes make them dance.

Good advice. Upgrading the 2.3TL's is very similar to doing the CRS+, except there's more of everything: 9 drivers instead of three, etc. In the process of doing my CRS+ and so far it's a breeze."Science is suppose to explain observations not dismiss them as impossible" - Norm on AA; 2.3TL's w/sonicaps/mills/jantzen inductors, Gimpod's boards, Lg Solen SDA inductors, RD-0198's, MW's dynamatted, Armaflex speaker gaskets, H-nuts, brass spikes, Cardas CCGR BP's, upgraded IC Cable, Black Hole Damping Sheet strips, interior of cabinets sealed with Loctite Power Grab, AI-1 interface with 1000VA A-L transformer -

9 drivers instead of 3???
More like 6 drivers instead of 2 or 12 drivers instead of 4
edit: you must be counting the tweeter, that's not a driver..

I thought the perfect lay were also a Litz configuration? I believe they changed the naming since I bought mine. In any case, I still revert to DK's Solen vs. Northcreek writeup, as whats what I used. I can't seem to find his writeup searching through the new forum, unfortunately.Good music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Tubes make them dance. -
I have never considered them a driver, but yes I get what your saying..

I believe the both inductors are perfect lay (the winding technique), with the difference being the slightly cheaper ones are built with solid core wire."Science is suppose to explain observations not dismiss them as impossible" - Norm on AA; 2.3TL's w/sonicaps/mills/jantzen inductors, Gimpod's boards, Lg Solen SDA inductors, RD-0198's, MW's dynamatted, Armaflex speaker gaskets, H-nuts, brass spikes, Cardas CCGR BP's, upgraded IC Cable, Black Hole Damping Sheet strips, interior of cabinets sealed with Loctite Power Grab, AI-1 interface with 1000VA A-L transformer -

Wait until you get those CRS+'s modded and going. I had an original vinyl pressing of For Those About To Rock playing at pretty serious volume the other night, and literally got goosebumps. Just tried to buy the Litz inductors from Solen through their website, until I realized the UPS shipping charge = the cost of the inductors: $200! ! ! !

I'll take that under consideration.
Sorry I dropped off for a bit. Spent last week preparing for a weekend trip to Raleigh, NC to see my only son get married. Nice adventure, good time, time well spent. - OK, to make this SDA related... son was spouting off how tech savvy he is, and I joked that if/when I die, I doubt he could even operate my stereo system. My ex-wife (we've been divorced for 18yrs) pipes up, ' You still have those big speakers?' referring to my SDA2's. I started laughing... she always wanted me to get rid of those!

" I started laughing... "
Life is always more manageable in the rearview mirror. Live and let live. If you're holding on to crap from the past, its holding you down in the present.
I'll admit that I and my ex spent a wonderful weekend together, enjoying our son's next stage of manhood. All gatherings & the ceremony itself, we were in unison, enjoying, acknowledging, and encouraging our son's evolution in his life's journey.
Hanging on to anything? Not at all... after 18 years I'm convinced more than ever that it was the best decision we both made at the time.
I'll just say that I'm a lucky man. It took a lot of work and mutual respect for the two of us to get where we are now. It has evolved into something like an old pair of house shoes. Out of sight, but always appreciated when needed, and just as comfortable as you last remembered.
Sorry, no SDA content in this post...

Ron, Our SDA collection resemble one another! I roll in the CRS+'s once in a while, my wife even comments on how "BIG" they sound! The TL upgrade is well worth every nickel, N'joy!
-
Hah! True Neil. Thanks for bringing a bit of reality back to my wandering prose...
So...
For these CRS+'s ... I am 'patiently' waiting on a 1KVA transformer (late October?) ... already have the Dreadnought case (Thanks Larry!) and I'm about to order the female SpeakON connectors for the case. David/westmassguy is putting together some very nice Canare 4S11 Interconnect cables.
I'll run the speakers stock for awhile, and then introduce the Dreadnought when I'm at a point to do the crossover upgrades - after the new year. I have also taken advantage of this window of opportunity to get Larry's rings for all 4 sets of my speakers so I feel very, very lucky in that regard! I will seal these CRS+ cabinets with the Loctite PowerGrab, put Larry's rings in, apply the Dynomat to the PR and Mids, apply some Blackhole 5, add the 2! RD0-094 upgraded tweets, and call it good till after the new year.2.3TL's - Living Room

Mike, I think your 'inventory' has a couple more 'heavy hitters' than mine. But thanks for the comment!
I'd hate to think that at some point I might consider replacement of the SDA2's for a 4th or 5th gen speaker set...nostaglia is strong with my original SDA set. Or, as Yoda would say, 'Strong is the force with that padawan. Hmph."2.3TL's - Living Room

Ron, I would not advise getting the 194s for the CRS+, unless you plan to re-use them in your 2s. The CRS+s can be upgraded to 4.1 TLs and 198s. The SDA-2s are quite formidable once upgraded, with some slight modifications. They compete very well with the later 2As and 2Bs. I've rebuilt several pairs, and compared them side by side with my 2As.Home Theater/2 Channel:
