Tweeters not working on both Monitor 7Cs

Hi, I just took a pair of Monitor 7Cs in a trade. They were basically given to me because one had a bad speaker. I read the forums (fantastic, by the way), ordered a new MW6502 from Polk, and now I have no highs coming from the speakers. I've read that a bad polyswitch cap can cause the tweeters not to work, but I'm not sure which cap on the crossover I need to jump to find out. Any ideas?

Your speakers are fused, there is no polyswitch. You either have a bad fuse or a bad tweeter.Political Correctness'.........defined

Never seen a "C" with a fuse, but as F1 says check them. should be 1amp, AGC Fast Blow. Check the tweeter connectors also. While you were in there, you might have jiggled things a bit.
Yippee, I just won a 2500 comment badge too.Home Theater/2 Channel:

Lesson learned--there's a reason they put those fuses right on the outside. Soooo, now that I can clearly see I have two bad fuses, would it be ok to jump the fuse holder? I'm just really wanting to test these things out, and I won't be able to get out to get fuses for another couple of hours. I'd be powering them with a 30wpc Magnavox stereo.
Thanks! -
Fuses are there for a reason. I wouldn't jump them with such a low power unit connected to themHome Theater/2 Channel:

Sounds good. I'm pretty sure that these are 150w speakers, but I've read differing opinions on how much power to give them. From what I gather, 60-100wpc is ok. Does that sound right?

Thanks for the clarification. I have recent Kenwood and Onkyo surround receivers that I was considering hooking up, but I'll hold off on that.

As long as you switch them to pure direct, stereo, you should be ok, just don't try cranking them. AVRs run out of steam very quickly.Home Theater/2 Channel:

E....do yourself a favor...take a few minutes..go to Radio Shack and get a couple of said value and stick em in there....don't take a chance by passing the fuses...

+1! Get fuses! Vintage receivers of 50 watts x 2 or > should be able to drive 7s. Most weigh 30+ lbs., and most of that weight is the transformer.Currently orbiting Bowie's Blackstar.!

Got the fuses, set the Onkyo (80wpc) to direct stereo, and I'm blown away by the clarity. I have a Magnavox Astrosonic console that comes close, but it rolls off the highs a bit too early. I've had my eye out for a vintage Marantz or Yamaha receiver; I can't wait to hear it all together. Thanks for the help, everyone.

Good, enjoy the 7s, they're the sweet spot in the vintage Monitor lineHome Theater/2 Channel:
