  • While getting to hear the 1st sets in the '70s and in the hung from the ceiling position ,if you read the manual there are more don't do that then positive positioning positions. They look perfectly set to position in corners and that's one of the biggest no/nos in the book. Then having the eq as your crossover network and that must h/u correctly I thought they were so restrictive I would never get a set. At the time I was partial to ESS Heil AMT 1 b.Huge footprint but great speaker.

Truly, if you spent any time with them not just a few listening sessions in store or at someone elses place where you could really evaluate them, (I owned a set for 5-6 years), I think you would be impressed as the reviewer was. Weakness are there, but that's true of any speaker I've owned.

I hung mine from chains from the ceiling initially because I couldn't afford the stands (was painful to screw eyehooks into $1400 cabinets) and they produced an impressive soundstage, good realism, and surprisingly good musicality across the band at any volume level. I remember having an "audiophile" buddy over to listen to them - he just sat there shaking his head in disbelief.

I'm sometimes tempted to give them another try with one of David's upgraded EQ/Crossovers, as I bet they are the cat's meow with upgraded components.

Anyway - I never liked them quite as well on the stands - and unfortunately, WAF is actually a little lower on those than large cabinets - at least for my wife. "They look weird, can't you sell them and get something else that sounds good" - greaaat, that'll be easy.

man, everyone beats up on Bose. I don't really understand it. sure there are probably better speakers, but I like them just fine, myself. I really like the old Bose AE-1 headphones I have too, and just replaced the earpads with oe Bose ones. I really don't understand the degree to which Bose is bashed. @Apexpro - If you liked 'em then, and can get them affordably, and have the room to properly run them as described above, I say go for it and enjoy the nostalgia. one of my favorite things about this hobby. maybe enjoy making a project of them if you end up liking them, or hold out for the set you really prefer. I'd also ask whether the seller would accept less for them, and cite your plans for rehab (the speakers, I mean)

I'd gladly rotate my series V ones into my speaker line-up, 'cept......the foam rotted out on 18 drivers long ago and I just don't feel like messing around with that project ! (or dropping the coin to have them done elsewhere)

I'd be happy to quote you on lifetime cloth surround for them, and recapping the Equalizer
