Maybe, I'm not sure, there are no stickers on the back?? I'm looking through some old threads trying to figure out just what I got. Oops, sorry I guess I should be on the vintage speakers page on this.

You are right. Wife just pulled them out of her purse saying "these were on the floor when you left today". I didn't see em.

They're 5jr+s. 5jrs are ported, 5jr+s have the 6.5" passive radiator, and the big 5As/5Bs have the 8" passive.

Yeah, the later Monitor 5Jrs (no + there) and 5Jr Series 2 had the passive radiators too, whereas the early 5Jrs had the little port, much like the Monitor 4s. And, all 5Jr+s, of course, had the passive radiators too.

Back before the forum page changed, my wife bought me a set of Polk Audio RT11’s she found from some contact where she works. After the page changed, my wife found a set of 5JR’s at a thrift store. I also commented that the buying of equipment was winding down as I really need to start doing some long overdue modifications here and there.

Before the Labor day weekend, my wife only worked a half day and when she got home, she called me from the driveway and said “come outside” and help me. She bought me a Yamaha SE 30 EQ to go with a small 2 channel Yamaha system, a Sansui RG7 to go with a small Sansui 2 channel system and to boot, some co/worker’s friend had a Technics SA-200 that they said did not fully work, it powered on but one side was not working.

Both of the EQ’s work. However, the sansui front display lights up but does not appear to be fully active via the display as it just remains one constant color and sadly “which she did not know” the front label has a silver background and the existing sansui stuff have a “teal” colored label. Visually the Yamaha is fine, the Sansui has some “streaking” on the face plate “no idea” on that.

On a whim I had mentioned the EQ’s to my wife only for the completion of separate components “mostly a visual thing”. I never said a thing to her about Technics.

The SA-200 works well now, looks to have had a good life cosmetically although one bulb is out and the left side did have output but was virtually inaudible, I did the de-ox on it twice and with a thorough cleaning, its running just fine at a whopping 25-27wpc. I thought the “problem” was in the balance knob control, it was actually in the “function” selector knob.
I ask her “why the Technics?” She replied “it was heavy” you always say the best radio’s weigh a lot and looks kind of old. “Visually”, it does look old, I’ll give her that. It weighs approximately 17lbs.

If she could only find me a Marantz 2385 or as she calls them, “those real pretty blue lights radios”.

The funniest part was her question about the speakers she found, “those are that Polk Audio brand”. “You still like Polk Audio don’t you”? I just smiled, gave her a big smooch and said “Yes I Do”.

Not massive value by all means but fun to see her “getting into” the hobby.
  • You better stop talking about her like that. Someone is going to steal her.
