Gee, there were only 3 channels on TV when I grew up, and there was only one phone and one bathroom in the house. TV was supplied by an outside antenna on a pole on the side the house. We had to adjust it ourselves to get one channel clear, almost every time we changed the channel. When people got up out of the chair to change the channel, the new "wired" remotes were really cool. When advancement in technology was neat and weird, and didn't make people lazy at the same time...

When I was a really little kid we only had 2 channels, and when we got the third (BBC2) people thought it was absolutely amazing. Same deal with the antenna as you. We never had a wired remote - went straight from manual to a sonic one. Now my TV is smarter than me.

I felt old a couple of weeks ago when shopping for a new car for my wife. Is is just me or is just about every new sedan come with way more buttons and screens than there needs to be. I liked it when a car loaded with options just had leather, sunroof, and a good stereo. Not anymore the salesman pushing me onto things I could care less about, like bluetooth, back up camera's, touch screens and other whoop de do features. Not to mention the styling of most of the cars was just way over the top. Guess I'm am getting old but the look of many of the new cars is just ugly, too many body lines, curves, and crazy headlight/taillight shapes.

My body continually tells me I'm getting old, my mind won't believe it! But, it's still clear in my mind when my dad 1st plugged in our monster size COLOR console TV. We got 4 channels on a good day.

OleBoot, I remember when getting that 4th channel in England was a big deal...think it was ITV?

We ended up getting a new Volkswagen Passat Wolfsburg ed. Which is just one step up from the base model. Had almost everything we wanted and nothing more. It has aluminum wheels and leather but not near as many silly gizmos. If I ever need my car to park itself or alert me if I am tired, than I shouldn't be driving.

First it was BBC & ITV, then BBC2, then ITV came up with a channel called......"Channel Four". Cable (Sky) had only just been launched when I moved here in 1990.

We nearly got a VW when we shopped for a car for my wife a couple years back - I thought it had the highest quality interior of anything we looked at in the price range. We ended up with a Nissan Juke, as we apparently like people pointing at as we drive past and falling about laughing. Actually, it's a really good driver's car and fit our needs for a small hatchback. It does, however, have too many gizmos - an astonishing range of bells, lights, buzzers and beeps to alert you to - I don't know. I got hold of a service manual and turned as many of them off as possible. Remember when I bought a motorcycle and was offended by the "idiot light" that told me it was in gear.

    You know you're old when:

    1. You have more teeth in the glass by your bedside than you do in your head.

    2. Your favorite breakfast drink is milk of magnesia.

    3. You have a broad waist and a narrow mind instead of a broad mind and a narrow waist.

    4. Your notice for your high school reunion is written on a stone tablet.

    5. Finding fault and jumping to conclusions is the most exercise that you get.

    6. When you go out to eat, they no longer ask you if you're eligible for the senior citizen discount .

Saturday and Sunday naps cannot be compared to Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday naps. All the worker bees are home on Saturday and Sunday, and their presence can be disruptive. I prefer them out at work adding to the quiet and the coffers around here.

I remember going with my Dad to the five and dime store to test a couple of tubes from the TV when it quit working. Used the free tester and bought replacements right there.

Am I old when my usual night-cap is an Alka Seltzer?

I spent many years managing high value IT projects, and if we'd have come up with a UI like this, I would have been fired a lot sooner than when I took the golden handshake package. Old now or not, I think I can recognize a good design, whether it appeals to 20 year olds, older folks or both, and this isn't it.
