Power companies hate "audiophiles". When I got my amps in July 2013, I doubled my electric bill with only a little over two weeks of use in that billing cycle. This was due to a combination of the amps, and increased AC use. I installed solar in August, and became a generator in September. Now they pay me.

Good for you!!! Sounds like a plan that might work for me since I live in sunny Florida.

Al jumped off the global warming bandwagon as no one with half a brain bought it. He's now on the climate change bandwagon, so now he can say that we're having a cooler summer because of climate change.

Of course, when he gets to hell he'll jump back to the global warming bandwagon.

I guess you haven't heard but most of the worlds scientists also seem to think the planet is warming due to human activity. This includes the folks over at NASA who manged to get us to the moon and and successfully land a few robots on Mars. But what do they know?

Uh...no. A lot of scientists who depend on grant money for their survival fudged results to tilt towards GW. Those scientists who don't depend on grant money have a totally different view. Oh...and where does NASA get their money from ? You really think they'll bite the hand that feeds them ?

Most of the guys in Club Polk have pretty sophisticated gear, including some SS amps, that use a lot of juice. (Mine does. When I installed it into my system and ran it 4 to 5 hours a day for a month, my electricity bill increased by 50%!!)

See tables 1 and 2 of this thread:

Just very curious about the temp of your amp it'self. I've said many times my Adcom runs to the cold side and only warms when really turning the knob or running multiple sets of speakers which I don't do anymore. I have a 1 bdrm apt.and I'm home all the time w/ just about every appliance and device on and my winter electric bills average $55 monthly and of course go up to about $120 in the summer using the built in 220v a.c unit. Fortunately this has been a non summer in Jersey so there are savings there. Like just about everyone else here I find very hard to believe an amp can add that much to your power bill, can't be just your audio. Have your meter checked by your power co. that they will do for free if you make a complaint and see if they are estimating useage which is done in some states.

Sounds to me like the next new thing will be a solar powered tube amp.

Nah....solar can't handle the current needed. Though you may see something similar to a "gas guzzler" tax imposed on gear that swallows energy like a cheap hooker.
