My Dog Is Starting Surgery

I know, I know. I should have gotten her spayed. I was contemplating letting her have a litter a little later in life (She's 4 now) even though I knew most likely I didn't want her to. Anyway she is starting Pyometra surgery right now, I was told it's life threatening. Wish her luck. $2500 bill, good thing I just spent a bunch of money on my stereo... She is like family to me, though. Not doing it isn't a choice.

    Good luck.

As someone with two dogs I know about not doing surgery NOT being an option.

Thanks everyone. Just got the call, she's done with surgery and is recovering. They'll monitor her all night but thinks she's going to be fine. The vet found a growth in one of her mammary glands during the procedure and is sending it in to see if it's cancerous. I hope not, after all this she deserves a break.

Like my friend said: She's already added years to your life, it's worth it.

Prayers for the pooch. I have been lucky with my animals. I have yet to have issues with any of them until they are pretty old. My dog is ten years old now and the cat is 14... at these ages, I feel it is sometimes best to consider all options but I would not hesitate, so long as there would be no suffering or pain going forward.

You are doing a good thing here and I wish nothing but the best for a long time to come.

Good luck I wish you well. I also had my bouts with pyometra with my German Shepherd which I did not have fixed for the same reasons. I just never got around to breeding her. I never wanted to do it for the money but more of a desire to let her be a mom as she was a very loving animal. We were able to treat it with heavy antibiotics twice but the last go round took her. I was thankful I was able to spend the time was able to with her which was 14 years. That is quite a while for a German Shepherd. Best dog I have ever owned.

She's home now. This is her "What do you want, I just had my guts ripped out" face. It took a lot of coaxing to get her to look at me.
