I bought 2 cars at the same time (My dad was a wholesale car dealer at the time so I spent a few weeks going to auctions with him and trying to bid on stuff...)
Finally won 2 in one day.
First was a 1982 Chevette diesel...
And then I picked up a 1980 Camaro Z28...bone stock and in perfect condition. But in poopy brown as my friends affectionately called it...
The Chevette lived a rough life as I flogged it mercilessly between school and home and everywhere in between.
The Camaro was babied constantly. But one day, on the way to work, she lost a rod at highway speeds and I decided to do some upgrades.
I was working at an auto parts store at the time and that 10% over cost discount thing was evil for a teenaged mechanic with money burning a hole in his pocket.
Eventually, the Camaro ended up with a 406 small block putting down around 475hp. Spent so much money on that car...then when I joined the Army, my dad's buddy offered to buy it from me.
The deal was, I would sell it to him, he would simply put it into his collection (22 muscle cars in his collection at that time) and then when I was ready, I would buy it back from him for the original sale price.
Skip ahead about 5 years, he passes away and his wife and daughter send the entire lot to Scottsdale to Barrett Jackson. My Camaro gets sold off just so the greedy wife and daughter could have money to blow (which they did). Even though his will said that the executor(the wife) of the estate should allow me first chance at buying the Camaro, she claimed to have sent me letters (even though she lived 2 miles from us) and called many times (she hadn't).
Of course, a kid in his early 20s at this time couldn't afford to take it to court and fight it so my Camaro was gone."Some people find it easier to be conceited rather than correct."
"Unwad those panties and have a good time man. We're all here to help each other, no matter how it might appear." DSkip -
First Vette, still got it.
Always wanted a "tear drop" hood Z28. -

61 Buick Lesabre...cost me $25. The thing would burn rubber with no problem but it was so heavy(needed both hands to lift that hood!) it could hardly get out of it's own way. Next car was a 65 Impala...engine had no dipstick hole. My dad and I spent what seemed like a long time searching for the dipstick and could hardly believe our eyes when it had no stick or hole! Would not want that Buick back but sure wish I had that Chevy.

1974 Plymouth 'Cuda 360 cu in V8. Bought it brand new in October of '73. Three years later I got married and the wife didn't like driving the car so it got replaced with a 1976 Honda Civic.

I'll tell you about my 68 Park Lane convertible later . . .
First car purchased was a 74 Charger 2 months prior to getting my license. The seller was a 20 something and well, I really didn't get my monies worth on that deal. But there were a ton O' funs times in that bad boy.
Here on the international boarder we would head South to Canada. The drinking age was 19 in Windsor, CA and kids will be kids. We would liberate cases of beer into the US for personal consumption. Fairly innocent times, so who would think to pop the hood to check for contraband? The hood was so long that the distance between the radiator and grill conveniently held 2 cases. All I needed to do was place a black colored trash bag facing the grill so it looked normal as the cat approached customsAC Regenerator PS Audio PerfectWave Power Plant 10

1972 Oldsmobile 442. Bought it in 1980 from my Grandfather's car dealership. Had a fresh coat of paint put on it, and re-chromed the bumpers before even driving it home.
Someone offered me what seemed like an awful lot of money for it in 1982...I should have kept it, could have got 5 times more money, less than 10 years later. -
'68 Ford Mustang 428CJ, fastback. I was 18. It looked like this one. Ford Toploader 4 speed with large input shaft. Ended up putting a Detroit locker in it as the traction lock case would split on the ring gear side where the housing was thin due to where the friction plates were. Sadly I don't have any good pics of it. One pic from an old magazine printed on crappy paper.

Cool stories! I like Z's Chevette. I had a friend who owned one, told everyone "Yeah, I got a 'Vette"
My first was a more than used 1966 Meteor. 289, auto. Paid $400 for it. My wife-to-be lived 2 hours away, used to go on my days off, quart of oil there, quart back. Had a coat hangar holding up the rear bumper as I recall. -
nooshinjohn wrote: »Was the engine in your Riv swapped out? Buick did not get the 455 until 1970, so your car would have been the 430.
My bad, your right John, it was the 430. What a ride though. Also had a Delmont 88, the precursor to the Delta 88, that had the big engine too, 425 I believe, but was a rust bucket. A silent screamer though, blew away many a Camaro at the lights.HT SYSTEM-

Mine was a 1960 Chevy Bel Air. Sold it When I joined the USMC.
The brother of the guy I sold it to still has the car!"The legitimate powers of government extend to such acts only as are injurious to others. But it does me no injury for my neighbour to say there are twenty gods, or no god. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg." --Thomas Jefferson -
Obviously one of the poor ones here i had a '66 Chevy Impala 327 with a Ltd slip rear.It was banana yellow where it wasn't rusted out which was a LOT of it.
Transmissions were $35 bucks at the junk yard if you pulled it.I will never forget this since i pulled at least 4 of them.
It would Sh%t and git but was hell to look at.
The other thing i'll never forget is during the summer i worked for a plumber being a grunt.
I always had mud on my feet and with the regular use of the noble weed and picking seeds out and tossing them on the floor i actually had pot plants growing in the car. Many of them.Main Rig-Realistic AM/FM Record player 8 track boasting 4 WPC

In 85 when I turned 16 bought 2 1978 Toyota Corolla for $600 swapped the best for the best to build my first car with my lawn mowing money, and scrapped the leftovers.
Kept the corolla for years because you could not kill it, but it wasn't a chick magnet. So I saved my money and thought I upgraded by buying a 1976 Firebird (chick magnet party car yes) big frigging money pit double yes.
