Bedroom HT

Started putting together a small HT setup in the bedroom...It will probably be a 3.0 system, utilizing a leftover LSi7's as the mains driven by my old standby Yamaha RX-V795.... Trying to find a center channel that would be compatible and work with that EQ... There is a local LSiC here in NJ that I might consider, but are the LSi's going to be a problem for that old yammy to drive.... (really not going to overdrive in the Bedroom.).

Is there another compatible model center that would work ? I was going to buy a soundbar but have these leftovers that I decided to plug in...

Any thoughts?

Honestly, for a bedroom I would just stick with stereo.

Those LSi 7's should sound quite good. Maybe add a sub (or two) but for me, I had a 3.1 setup in my bedroom at one time using a set of Monitor 40's, CS1 & PSW125, and TBH it was too much.

If I "really" want to do a movie "right" I want the bigger TV in my main room anyway, so I'd just stick with stereo.

Otherwise as skip suggests, sell the LSi 7's and maybe look at some RTi A1's x 2 (L/R/SL/SR) and a CSi A4....

Thats what I'd start with. If you still want more, then go with a 3.1 setup of RTi's or the 5 channel setup I suggested as its easier for your AVR to drive.

Is a soundbar good enough for the bedroom? can I add a wired sub to any of the base models?

I would think you can, not sure how the wiring would work.

On my Surroundbar 1000 it takes a optical input from my TV. Not sure if thats the standard......

For my wife and I the Surroundbar 1000 is perfect for bedroom watching. She was not interested in the 2000 which was like 20 bucks more from Polk eBay that came with a wireless sub lol...

Just do a 2.1 if you've got a free sub. There is no point to get a center in a bedroom, especially when you're talking about an LSiC that could strain that receiver.

I agree. Re-use the LSi7's and just find a cheap sub or re-use one you have already and I think you will be more than happy.

So I ended up taking 2 "satellite" speakers from an old RM5400 kit I had and making a center out of those by wiring them in parallel to give me a 4 ohm load and laying them on their sides, the 2 LSi 7's and the MP1K to make a 3.1 system... gonna use a PS3 as a BDP/Gaming system, cd player and network audio streamer.... and Voila......It sounds ok....the MP1K sub is the star and perhaps a bit overkill...but is sounds a lot better than the tv speakers :)

The old RX-v795 seems to be running cool and I am not worried about blowing it... if it does... hey new toy time!!!

For music it definitely sounds better in 2.1 but for movies the 3.1 adds a dimension that I kinda like. I can toggle modes for now... The AVR is not so good and that is the current weak link...I remember when I was wowed by the RM5400 series... that was a long time and many speakers ago :)

If I pick up on what Dan is saying with the term "Stereo" I am on that page. I went with a relatively efficient 2 channel set up for my bedroom, and am quite happy . So many options out there. Glad I found the avenue I did. Woke me up that;s for sure,

I ran 3.1 in the bedroom for a long time, finally installed two in-ceiling speakers several months ago. Truthfully I rarely watch movies, but the wife prefers to watch tv in the bedroom and I like to experience the pretty decent surround sound that a lot of tv shows now have, and we listen to a lot of concerts on palladia with the kids. So I don't think its overkill, though my wife does think I am a little insane...

So this has evolved a bit... I found a cheap Yamaha TSA 6750WA (RX-V675 bundled with a wireless kit) refurb. Installed a leftover PS 3 for a BDP/gaming system. Still contemplating what would serve as a compatible yet compact center. Any Ideas?

And it continues.... took a drive to see fellow Polkie Devani today and releived him of the nice LSiC he had for sale..Now I have a center channel that can hang... Some may think it over kills, but in this config it really sounds great. Not a very big room so no worries about stress on the receiver... runs cool.

Read all of the above threads and what I didn't see was the size of the room and discription on where the speakers, TV and all the rest will be placed.

I run a 5.1 setup in my master bedroom and I could not be happier. The vaulted ceiling adds to the widening of the sound field as the fronts and center sit 8 feet above the floor on a shelf above the main closet. That shelf holds all the components and the 39" flat screen mounts along the face of the shelf. The room measures out at 25 feet wide and 18 feet long in the main area. I use some old Optimus LX5's as rears and with that 360 tweeter on them brings out those small sounds of surrounds bring.

Size of the room and design/layout will be the real test to see what will work best.

The room is actually on the small side, app 14x14... The 37' tv is wall mounted on an articulating arm with everything tilted toward the center... which is the only way it can go.... I used the Yamaha YPAO room correction and it sounds good. The LSi7's can easil fill the room and the LSiC nowfits under the TV now that I raised it by about 4". I put a lot of thought into this yesterday contemplating finding a used set of Mirage OmniSat's or perhaps a used set of DefTech small HT 5.0 speaks. This being the lowest cost option and I am very happy with it (for now) :) The MP1K is x'd over at about 80 and provides nice tight bass in this space. I am using an old set of those polk RM54XX as surrounds, and they are as they don't need to do much and they are nice and small. All in I now have a nice little BR HT 5.1 system that is networked and does everything I need it to do with around $500 invested in the refurb receiver and the LSiC... The rest were all spare parts.:)

And it continues.... took a drive to see fellow Polkie Devani today and releived him of the nice LSiC he had for sale..Now I have a center channel that can hang... Some may think it over kills, but in this config it really sounds great. Not a very big room so no worries about stress on the receiver... runs cool.

No such thing as overkill if you think it sounds good. I am glad your enjoying it. Its a very nice system for a bedroom!
