i have onkyo 818 model as far as set up everytime i turn up the sound the speaker blows this is the second one in 2 months. this time i checked the crossovers and the capasitor and resister are burned the outer casing on the resister is broken off a piece but not burned or melted just the compasitor is where the filler inside was melted all to it. tech support said my stereo is under powered for speaker. the. rti 12 takes allot of power to get up and running good now why doesnt the 12 burn up also if the reciever is under rated he told me to buy a amp with more power over watt it so center uses less power but not on the 12
man this is confusing my thought in order to run the 12 past mid level is ok but not on the cheaper csi3 causes the speakers to blow. throw out the csi use for bookshelf speaker and use my old infinity center channel that i have and can turn it up 3/4 + range and get the 12 to sound because the infinity has a better crossover and cost allot more
i have read where you could update the capasitor to handle more heat and more watts on the resister. where the speaker will not blow at a 100-135 watts per channel at 8 olhms i should be able to crank up the csi with no troublle

I don't know what coinboy is up to above, probably looking to get "reported"?
The Onkyo 818 most definitely DOES not put out anywhere near 100 watts per channel in the surround mode. Onkyo downsized the transformers and caps in the 8XX series soon after my 805. And I wouldn't run Rti-12s without an amp on the 805 (51 lbs) even though it can put out a true 130 watts x 5.
You're probably clipping the Onkyo big time. I'd do as Dskip suggests. At least take the burden of driving the two towers OFF the Onkyo, it should have no problem dealing with the center and surrounds!
