Thought it would be polite to introduce myself. Bill Peel, currently of Gainesville, Florida. 58 and married to my wonderful bride, Michele, 21 years. Have an interest in most things vintage, including home audio. Currently have an NAD 7140 receiver and a pair of Fried Model Qs as the backbone of my system. One of the Frieds needed to have the woofer replaced and naturally, that changed the coloration. I remember Polk Audio from my days in Michigan in the middle/late seventies. Auditioned the Monitor 7 (liked it!) and the Monitor 10 (liked it slightly better...until my ears were "educated.") So I'm just getting back "into" audio and have fond memories of the Polks. Would like to snag a pair of Monitor 7s. Very pleased to have found this forum.

    That's where Polk can take you to a new level altogether.

    All Oakland County also. Born in Auburn Heights, lived in White Lake Township for 7 years and did a stint in Lake Orion. Total of 32 years there. Still miss the beauty of it and the rich culture. It saddens me to see Detroit and the decaying Pontiac Silverdome.

    I'll add my two cents worth to the recommendations of others to look for a pair of SDAs. They have unique -- and wonderful -- sound!

    Of course, that's an invitation to enter the rabbit hole -- a sure tunnel to fun modifications that yield remarkable benefits!

    Kudo's to you Bill, and welcome. Thanks for the proper introduction too. If you like the vintage sound, Polk SDA's are a fine speaker but because of their age most will need some work. Don't know your budget or how much your willing or capable to do yourself, but refurbishing sda's can drain the wallet some. An old pair of RT55's as a big bookie may serve you well and are cheap to boot.
