I have the sub and controller, hooked it up, worked fine, but the cone made a rhythmic push every 2-3 seconds on its own.
Even before the stereo was turned on.
The foam surround is shot, and i held it on 2 sides with my fingers, and when i found the right distance to push in, the pushing stopped, and it made a good sub response, considering no foam.
I have tried to get my read on, and it seems some accounts are pretty close to this, and they took the controller to their repair shop, got a few generic parts replaced, and had good luck.
Im a little concerned about spending money on it as its 26 years old, but im getting it for free.
Anyone who has had any experience with this type of situation, your experience would be greatly appreciated.
BTW, I could take the sub and controller to a shop in atlanta for them to check it out all at one time, just not sure if its all worth it.
im sorta hyped about having a coffee table 12 in sub that was designed and built for music, not home theater as thats how i would use it.
thanks guys.

IF you can get it fixed for under $100, I'd say go for it and if not satisfied then you could sell and get most of your money back. More than that, I'd save for something else.2-ch System: Parasound P/LD 2000 pre, Parasound HCA-1000 amp, Parasound T/DQ Tuner, Phase Technology PC-100 Tower speakers, Technics SL-1600 Turntable, Denon 2910 SACD/CD player, Peachtree DAC iT and X1asynchorus USB converter, HSU VTF-3 subwoofer.

I know you have some serious experience with even park bench size subs, so i will def go with your exp.
i think i will go with NW speakers, they take their time, but really seem to know their stuff, both edoing electronics, as well as refoaming.
Im gettin kinda excitedabout having a big sub to work in with the sdas, as well as my litle apl prism500s.humpty dumpty was pushed -
They're great subs for 2 channel, but were never designed for Home Theater, so you're good there. The cone moving by itself is the Servo Controller. I've re-foamed a few that did that when initially powering up after the repair. Like TNHNDYMAN said, if you can get it repaired for a reasonable price, do it. The only future problem may be the accelerometer. If it fails, they don't make a replacement for it.Home Theater/2 Channel:

thank you sir, i gues it all comes down to how much it all costs, if its not much, i can risk the accelerometer going bad, if its expensive to get going, I have a free coffee table.humpty dumpty was pushed

called nw speakers, they charge 60 to check it out, for now, might wait, normally i would go ahead and do the refoam, but without knowing its all gonna work, pfffft.
Was really looking forward to having a serious sub to go in the 2 channel, wonder if there is a govt. program to help impoverished boys like me.humpty dumpty was pushed
