Looking for a center channel to go w/ my Lsi9's

Hi all,

To start off with I know less than nothing about home theater. I have a pair of Lsi9's that I want to use as fronts. Looking for a center channel and a set of rear speakers. But I can buy the center 1st and the rears later if need be. I see another Polkie has an LisC for $200 but I'm looking to spend as little as possible to start with. I have a late 90's JVC AVR. I'm looking for something of a home theater experience but it doesn't have to be perfect. Hell I watch movies now with nothing more than the speakers in the TV (which suck I might add LOL)

I found this on my local Craigslist. My question to you boys and girls is a decent match for the Lsi9's or should I steer clear

Thanks all...........P-man

    +1 for LSiC.

Another thing: is your JVC avr 4 ohm capable or do you have a spare amplifier for them?
Speakers: Polk Audio LSiM 705, LSiM 703, LSiM 704c
    Receiver: Denon X3500H

Looks like a big ''no'' on the 4 ohm. So ends my journey. I'll just run a pair of fronts and watch movies that way

Keep an eye out on CL for a more robust AVR. I picked up a Denon AVR-5803 a while back for my dad for $150...

I think that your LSi9s with decent power would might nice 2 channel HT. Dynamic, good bass response, big soundstage, should be very enjoyable overall.

Consider also another pair of LSi9s or a pair of LSi7s.
Do you hear that buzzing noise?
  • I recently came into possession of a pair of LSI9's. I like them a lot so far! I have a small polk sub which I am going to replace with a Velodyne 12" which I have in my basement. For the center channel I currently have an old polk with two 6" woofers. I think it is a CSi400. I'm thinking that is not terribly well matched with the fronts. Would something like the LSiC be better matched? I can't seem to find too many of them available.

For my rears I'm using old FX500 I believe. I wonder if this is close enough for rears.

The LSiC is the perfect match for your 9's. Keep an eye out for one. It is most important to have your front 3 be of the same series. You're 500's are probably OK for HT. Might keep an eye out for a pair of LSi7's for a full matched set. Good luck.
  • Ken - Thank you for the information. Is the LSiC the only center channel from that speaker series? Aside from the issue of availability, I wish it came in some different finishes.
  • Ken - One down side of using the LSI in the back is that based on my room I need to use the speakers on the side walls (either side of the couch which is against the back wall). I wonder if that would be problematic for bookshelves. Would it be not dispersed enough for home theater but too directional for music?

Bipole/dipoles are better on the sides IMO. Keep an eye out for some LSiFx's, keeping in mind they are harder to find than a LSiC. In the meantime your current 500's will be fine. Unfortunately the LSiC is the only timbre matched center for that line. If it's just the finish that bothers you I suppose you could re veneer it. Good luck in your quest...
