Running Dual sub question

Hey quick question y'all should the subs be placed on the insides of the towers or the outsides of the towed for best performance? I'am waiting for my AVR to show up so just setting up the speakers now and would like to know sub placement I do want them up front.

I have mine on the outside. My mains would have been too far apart for my sweet spot had I opted for the subs inside, plus they sound better there than inside, at least for my room and sitting area. YMMV, of course.

Either inside of the mains or outside is fine. Keep in mind the closer you get to the corners of the room, you will get corner gain. I approach stereo sub setup like my main speakers. Listen, move, run a room sweep, L than R and then combined. You may have to move your subs closer to or further from rear wall or even at different distances to have them low frequencies at your listening position.

Some subs have a boundary control for corner placement. My nht B-12d's have -3dB, 0 or +3dB control. Mine shore up the 25-35Hz range due to the large space my mains are in. I have them on the outside and set about a foot behind the front of my main speakers. My left sub runs at -3dB. I have stacked GIK Tri Traps in left corner, one on right corner chimney wall and one in left rear of room.

Thanks Red, we will be sitting 8 foot back from the screen so my fronts will be 8 foot apart which leaves me plenty of room either on the inside of the fronts or on the outside of them as the wall is over 20 feet. I guess I will just experiment I just wondered if there is a preferred way by those that of tried it either way.

I've personally never liked the sound of a corner placement subwoofer, evar in any room I've heard. Only done it with very weak subs when it was the only way to get a boost from it, or other placement reasons.

I do like subs placed either in the center of the room or 1/4 the room width from the side walls. Not as much ultimate output but much cleaner and tighter in my limited experience.

I ageee and follow the same procedure. I also have GIK traps. REW makes placement and adjusting easier. Based on your AVR selection, you may have to do a "Sub distance tweak" to dial it in perfectly. The results can be outstanding. Good luck.

I'm using a two channel pre so all I have are the sub adjustments and relocation. If I couldn't of got it right via those adjustments, I would have used a Behringer to digitally EQ them. Not visible in the right speaker pic, I am open to the main level at the edge of the two tier album rack. That adds another 25' x 20' area with 14' ceiling. My first floor area is a great lesson in room modes.

Speaker response is 25Hz - 20KHz (+/- 1.5db). I've had other speakers that dig deeper, but they all needed help in the nether frequencies on that wall. Bass is not soggy or boomy, at all. Subs come in with dubstep or organ music, otherwise the speakers do the majority of the work for most of the music I listen to.

SComp, I kinda fiqured that based on your sig. That's a beautiful set-up you have. I bet they sound amazing. The SS8's are #1 on my list right now when I upgrade. I was amazed by them at Axpona . I would love to hear them in a proper room and set-up.

Gudnoyez, what AVR did you purchase?
