PSW12 subwoofer - No sound from Yamaha RX-V775

Hi,
I've just bought a new Yamaha RX-V775 to replace an amp that died a few months ago. I've attached the subwoofer pre-out on the receiver to the Line In (Unfiltered) on the sub woofer. I've set volume to half and low-pass to 100%. The subwoofer power switch is set to auto and it is switching off/on when the receiver is switched off/on so it is getting a signal. However - no sound from the sub woofer.
I've set the speakers to small and manually configured the sub woofer. Still no sound. Please advise as to how I can troubleshoot this.
Thanks,

Hello,
Welcome to Polk's forum. The first thing to do is check the sub's operation. To do this turn the sub's volume all the way down and remove the cub-cable from the receiver. Then connect the sub-cable to either the right or left audio output of your DVD player. Now start playing a CD, not a DVD, and slowly turn the volume up on the sub. There should be plenty of clear bass.

Thanks Kenneth,
That was very helpful advise. I needed some way to isolate the problem (sub, cable, receiver). My DVD player is a PS3 and doesn't have audio output posts (you need a special cable). I therefore had to use the audio output on my satellite TV box. I can hear some sound from the sub woofer, not a lot though. I assume "Dora the Explorer" isn't suitable test material. Will try a music channel as soon as my daughter lets me.
For now am assuming that the subwoofer works and the problem is with the receiver.
Thanks again,

Hello Jairaj,
Good, I'm glad the information was helpful. The problem might be caused by not having the receiver set to "sub-on" function. Sometimes a phone call to the receiver's customer support line can help.
Cheers, Ken -
Thanks again Ken,
The problem turned out to be the cable, was using a cheap an nasty one. I got a decent cable and problem solved.
